Working as a Team
“Together we make a great team” – Arvella Schuller’s family slogan
But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” (Matthew 12:25)
Why not sit down with your spouse and together establish family objectives?
Will you work toward “becoming one” in every sense?
Exactly how and where could you start fusing your separate interests into one?
In her book “The Positive Family,” Arvella Schuller says she is one of the lucky women who teamed up with her husband in career and in the management of their family. She says an extra in-depth dimension appears when husbands and wives team up in their business, profession, and career. Two minds are better than one. Great accomplishments are completed by teams.
In the past half year, God teamed me up with my wife in her coffee roasting business. While I don’t even drink coffee, I do want to bless my wife to see her dreams fulfilled. And Julia is helping me with her counsel in my web business and networking. The more unity my wife and I have, the more both of us will accomplish for Jesus.
Here are 8 steps that Arvella describes to manage by objectives. The order of these is valuable for achieving any objective.
1) Clarify your values.
2) Establish priorities.
3) Set goals.
4) Make decisions.
5) Calculate the resources needed to reach the goals and carry out the decisions.
6) Review and adjust your resources (time, money, and energy) to accomodate your carefully selected objectives.
7) Establish a calendar, setting time limits on decisions to make sure you don’t procrastinate.
8) Set aside “meeting times” where “the team” reviews progress made toward realizing your determined objectives.
Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, You have a purpose for couples, not just individuals. For those of us who are married, help us establish family objectives and then work together to see those become reality. Draw husbands and wives closer to You and thereby closer to each other. Bless my wife’s coffee roasting business and use this to allow her to bless people around the world. Thank You Jesus. Amen.
