Sunday Inspiration: Complexity is the enemy of everything
On Friday May 10, I had the privilege of attending the Chick-fil-A Leadercast in Leesburg, VA. The main venue was in Atlanta, GA, but the event was broadcast to many other live events across the United States and even the world. The theme this year was Simply Lead and the teaching by a variety of leaders was truly extraordinary. More than 100,000 people attended the live events.
Michael Hyatt was the host. He is currently the Chairman of Thomas Nelson Publishers, the largest Christian publisher in the world and the seventh largest trade book publisher in the United States. His blog, MichaelHyatt.com, is ranked as one of the top five leadership blogs with almost 250,000 visitors a month.
Of all the leadership speakers, including Dr. John Maxwell, Condoleezza Rice, Mike Krzyzewski, Jack Welch, Dr. Henry Cloud, and others, my favorite was Andy Stanley. When introducing Andy, Michael Hyatt said said he is his favorite keynote speaker and I could see why.
Of all the wonderful messages I heard, something Andy Stanley shared stood out for me the most.
Complexity is the enemy of everything, including clarity!
Now the reason this matters so much is that the greater the clarity we have, the more favor we will experience.
Andy said, “The mist if your mind will eventually become a fog in your organization.”
Andy shared that for more than a decade he has carried around a 3×5 index card with 3 questions to keep his leadership simple:
Leadership Made Simple
- What are we doing?
- Why are we doing it?
- Where do I fit in?

If you are interested in growing your leadership skills and networking with other leaders, I encourage you to consider attending the Chick-fil-A Leadercast in 2014. I anticipate that will be in May.
Blessings to keep things simple as you lead!
Joseph
