Packing Up Our Tents

22 Aug

“My prayer today is that God would make me an extraordinary Christian.” – George Whitefield

Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. (Matthew 9:29)

Have you shaken off the settler mentality?
What does a God-scripted existence look like?

A few weeks ago, the Lord gave me the word “transition” while I was taking a shower. I knew at that moment the word applied to Ben Stewart, but little did I realize it also applied to me. When I wrote the Chase the Lion series, I thought the Holy Spirit was having me write that primarily for you. Now I realize, He was building up my courage as well. And now I’m doing an unplanned series titled “When God Writes Your Life Story.” This is more about experiencing the ultimate adventure.

According to Erick and Leslie Ludy, “God created us as little kids with a passion for impossible things. But He never intended for us to have that passion stripped away as we grew into adulthood. He wants us to believe in Him, the God of the impossible. He wants us to expect Him to be as large as He says He is an as capable as He claims to be. God created us for adventure, for passion, and for pioneering… As Christians, we are meant to have an insatiable appetite for God, seeking Him as a miner searches for gold.

I’ve come to discover that journaling is a great way to write down my God stories as they unfold. But it’s sharing these (through e-devotionals and my blog) that allows God’s new and fresh living waters to continue to flow into and out of my life to bless other people. It is my hope that sharing my God stories will encourage you to do something similar. It’s fun – kind of like being the Samaritan woman at the well every day telling people you know about this “Jesus guy.”

In yesterday’s message, I talked about my top five contacts for the past four years. I mentioned that Rick Heeren, Jerry Graham, and Ben Stewart were three of them. But it wasn’t until August 16, a day of supernatural convergence, that I realized that my top new contacts for 2006 and 2008 were Joseph Umidi and Debra Thompson Roedl, respectively.

During 2007, my first ever year of Sabbath rest (sabbatical), the two best things that happened to me were meeting Jerry and starting my Lifeforming Leadership Coaching (LLC) training, both on June 1. By far, the LLC training has been my favorite (and most transformational) training of my life. This says a lot because as a physician I have had lots of training.

Joseph Umidi is co-founder and president of Lifeforming Leadership Coaching. I first met him at the Founder’s Inn in Virginia Beach in last August 2006 when I attended the International Coalition of Workplace Ministries conference led by Os Hillman, former President of the International Christian Chamber of Commerce. It was through my daily devotionals that I managed to stay in touch with Joseph. It was in early 2006, the Holy Spirit revealed to me that a daily email with short stories of changed lives and a prayer was the number one way to grow my network and build strong relationships.

Joseph first came to Culpeper in December 2006 for our first ever “Healthy Virginia” meeting. In January 2007, he came back to lead a “Real Talk” seminar. That gave me practical exposure to how “coaching” works and how effective it is to change lives. In the past few weeks, I have been in frequent communication with Joseph about forming an alliance because he thinks that what Jerry and I are doing to combine journaling and destiny coaching in small groups over the web is a key to exponential growth of transformational coaching. Joseph stresses the importance for people to learn to hear God’s voice.

I first learned about Debra on July 1 when Michael Pink, head of the Christian Business Directory, hosted a webinar with Debra as the main speaker. After hearing Debra share her background and what she does, I immediately signed up for her 8 week Bullseye Marketing course. While that’s not cheap, it is so worth it. As a result of Debra’s training, my web team is now rolling out a series of products, courses, and memberships to market. I’ll share more about Debra tomorrow. Stay tuned. You don’t want to miss that.
