Festival of Lights
When you bless the Jewish people, God will bless you!
At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Yeshua was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon. (John 10:22,23)
What is the Festival of Lights?
How does that relate to Christmas?
Yesterday I shared a “Letter From Jesus About Christmas,” which closely reflected my view of Christmas. Today I’d like to share a good message received recently from a Messianic Jewish leader about the Festival of Lights, a Biblical holiday:
Today (Saturday) is the 4th day of Chanukah
The Feast of Dedication also known as the Festival of Lights
Chanukah is Hebrew for dedication. It commemorates the dedication of the Temple after the victory of the Maccabees over the pagan Gentiles who had defiled the Temple and drew many in Israel away from God. I want to focus on the meaning of Chanukah for us today. The system of this world has a strong pull on us in the same way as it did upon Israel during the time of the Maccabees. We are constantly tempted and lured to participate in the secular godless culture that permeates our society. The media is perpetually attempting to influence us to leave what our society would label the “superstitious ways of faith” and embrace a world view that exalts what is false and puts down what is true. The following prophetic words of judgement are truly upon us:
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight! (Isaiah 5:20-21)
Our liberal permissive society that refuses public prayer, denies there is a God, sanctifies the killing of the unborn, and makes it a crime for parents to discipline their children have released a curse upon us all. They have taught for decades that we are all beasts that have evolved from apes. Why then should we be surprised when our children fulfill those very words by destroying innocent lives like mindless animals—actually worse than animals since their murderous ways are for sport and glory—a motivation unknown in the animal world.
The Maccabees took a stand. They said no to the ways of the pagans and yes to the word of God. We too also must take a stand. We must say no to the ungodly ways of the world and yes to the ways of the Lord.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If any one loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides for ever. (1 John 2:15-17)
Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, help the Christians in this world to get back to our Jewish roots. Put a deep desire in our hearts to celebrate feasts and holidays in such a way that Jewish people come to know Yeshua as their Messiah. In Yeshua’s name, I pray. Amen.
Blessings to learn more about your Jewish roots and to bless the Jewish people!
