Two Levels of Faith
“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom; justice; honor; duty; mercy; hope” – Winston Churchill
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
How great is your faith?
If you were on trial for being a Christian, how much evidence would there be to convict you?
What simple thing can you do to grow in faith?
It’s not always easy to find the time to prepare these messages, but I have great joy in seeing how the Holy Spirit uses them to inspire others as well as me. As mentioned in yesterday’s devotional, Rev. Ron Davidson, president and founder of Gleaning For The World (GFTW), replied to my January 4 within 2 hours of sending it. Here is what he shared:
“Randy I am so thankful that you included us in your devotional. I am and have been first and foremost a minister of God. When I started Gleaning for the World I had no idea what God wanted. He had a great vision and I was looking for something part time where I could touch the poor and still minister in God’s name. God had other ideas and that is fine. God has never needed to ask me for permission. That would be foolishness. He is God and I am a human fighting the weakness of humanity. I have an agreement with God that He can lead anywhere anytime in any direction and I will try to follow. He is a zillion times wiser than I and knows what is best.
A minister was preaching several months ago and he said there were two levels of faith. One says, “God show me what You want and I will follow”. That requires God showing us and to some degree getting our approval before we follow. The other faith says, “God go where You want, do what You want, when You want and I will follow regardless of what the task will be”. I am trying to get there. I have promised God that I will never ask Him where He is heading. That is His business. My job is to show up and try not to mess up what God is doing. I only ask for His grace when I don’t understand and mess up a miracle that He has created.
I am proud that you and Sam have chosen to work with Gleaning for the World. Please understand that you are working with a Preacher who is running a missions logistics program. Now that is grace. I look forward to your visit and to the opportunity we have of helping you fulfill your call from God. That is why we exist.”
Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, thank you for Ron’s message about faith. Bless me and my wife with a great measure of faith. May we be willing to both live and die for You – to go anywhere You lead at anytime and in any direction. Holy Spirit, may we gladly submit to You as our Guide and Counselor. Thank You Jesus. Amen and hallelujah!
