Tonight the Walls Come Tumbling Down
Like any good story, history should be shared!
“that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” (John 17:21)
What does true Christian unity look like?
That’s a great question. Come see tonight!
Unity first begins with our own communion with God. As we draw closer to Jesus, He purifies us, takes away our selfishness, and makes us whole. This in turn makes our marriages and family relationships healthy. Holiness can then emanate outward. Holy families impact other families, and soon a refining fire of holiness spreads. As that happens, man-made divisions in the Body of Christ come tumbling down.
Tonight in Culpeper, the walls come tumbling down between denominations, races, and ethic groups as four churches unite and invite the entire community for a Christian unity event at Culpeper County High School from 6-9:30 PM. This is already the second in their “Christian Event Series” in 2007 and they are planning similar events throughout the year.
Rev. Dr. Charlene Phillips and the Christian Event Series have been the subject of this week’s prayer focus article for Pray Culpeper. Dr. Phillips says her “goal is for all Christians to come together regardless of ethnic background or denomination. If we can come together as brothers and sisters in Christ then we can be more effective. We’re going to have to unite as a people to share God’s plan for salvation.”
Therefore, White Oak Run Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Churches (both Madison and Culpeper), and Free Union Baptist Church have united and are inviting the entire community to join them tonight for an evening of inspirational songs and dialogs, including a message from Dr. Hortense Hinton and others. “The varied music provided by groups from Washington, D. C., Richmond, and Manassas is guaranteed to appeal to old and young alike. In an age where too many ‘anything goes’ role models are presented by Hollywood, athletic promoters and pro-cult media, we feel called by God to focus on Godly African-American heroes who are Christian role models.”
Let me tell you, it’s a tremendous privilege to be actively involved with the core team for Pray Culpeper and be kept abreast of many things God is doing to make us a community in unity. It’s a tremendous privilege to pray with others for leaders in our community and then see huge answers to our prayers. It’s a tremendous privilege to be around others who are hot for Jesus. It’s a tremendous privilege to seek the face of God corporately.
Tomorrow we’ll take a closer look at “Who is Rev. Dr. Charlene Phillips?”
Prayer Power
Father, God of compassion, God of love, we pray souls will be saved, eyes will be opened, and hearts will receive the Word of God tonight at Culpeper High School. We pray for our community to unite as one fabric to worship the LORD and that others will be encouraged to be witnesses and to disciple not only our community, but our nation. We praise You LORD! We thank You Jesus. We exalt Your holy and precious name. Hallelujah. Amen! So be it LORD.
