Sunday Inspiration: The Top 5 Lessons I Learned From My Dad
On Friday April 4, 2014 I had the privilege of attending the memorial service for Darrell Nygaard at Culpeper United Methodist Church. That was beautiful. What stood out for me the most was how Darrell would often say “I am a blessed man.” Obviously he was grateful and knew who to thank.
While I had never met Darrell, I know both of his daughters – Linda Zobel and Lisa Lyons. Linda and Lisa are both passionate Christians and are married to passionate Christians.
After the memorial service, I went to the fellowship hall for a short while. There was a simple display of photos and special memorabilia. One of the things that stood out for me was a certificate that Ed Lyons gave to Darrell to honor him for Father’s Day gift in June 2006.
Here is what Ed wrote were the, “The Top 5 Lessons I Learned From My Dad.”
- Work like you own the business.
- Manage your finances to become debt-free.
- Act like Christ’s return is tomorrow.
- Always be there for your children.
- Love your wife (his daughter) the way Christ loves the Church.
These lessons are simple, yet profound. After reading them, I felt led to share them with you.
Blessings to leave a legacy that glorifies God!
