The Best Hope For Your Future
Much prayer, much power; little prayer, little power; no prayer, no power.
I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
How much time do you spend each day praying for your spouse or significant other?
If you’re not spending time, how do you get started?
In yesterday’s devotional titled “Don’t Despise Small Beginnings,” I talked about the importance of doing the little things right over and over and over. The most important thing I have done in the past seven years to bless my family is to pray for my wife.
This morning I prayed for my wife’s future using Chapter 20 of “The Power of a Praying Wife” by Stormie Omartian. Stormie’s prayer books have been my favorite ones over the past 5 years. I first learned about them on my birthday (March 18) in 2002 when Dr. Sue Wilcox gave me two of them as a belated Christmas gift.
When we invest in our future wisely, we see great dividends. Unlike the stock market, when we don’t invest anything, we still can lose. And those losses can be devastating. The most profitable way to invest in the future is to pray. God promises to give us a future and a good reason to have hope, but we have to pray about it (Jeremiah 29:11). Your prayers for your wife’s future are an investment that is guaranteed to reap benefits for the rest of your lives together.
One of the most important things your wife needs for the future is the wisdom to get there. Life can quickly get out of control and we can get off the path when we don’t have wisdom and revelation from God.
Most of a woman’s decisions have to be made quickly, throughout the day. She needs to have the wisdom of the Lord in order to be able to make those decisions well. When you have wisdom, discernment, understanding, and the knowledge of God, you don’t have to worry about the future.
God says we need to have a vision. So we must ask Him for it. But getting a vision from God for our future doesn’t mean He is going to reveal all the details of what’s ahead. He only promises to reveal Himself to us, when we seek Him. That’s because He doesn’t want us to know the future—He wants us to know Him. He is our future. When we know Him, He guides us into the future He has for us.
The future is so uncertain that, even when things are going well, we can never get too cocky about it. Everything can change in one moment, and then our lives are forever different.
As you pray for your wife’s future, remember that it’s your future too. If you keep investing in your wife’s future with prayer, I guarantee that your lives are going to be rich with blessings from God.
Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, thank You for Dr. Sue Wilcox and the blessing she has been to me and our family. Bless her, her family, and her ministry in the marketplace. As You did with me, place a desire in the hearts of husbands to pray for their wives faithfully. Thank You that prayer changes things and brings an increased measure of Your power. We bless You Jesus. And it’s in your precious name we pray. Amen.
