You change the world by Acts of Random Kindness (A.R.K.), one at a time! – “God” in Evan Almighty movie

Who will save us from the judgment that is coming?

Yesterday evening, my good friend and Pray Culpeper partner, Dewey McDonnell, called to invite me and my wife to join his family to see Evan Almighty. This movie, filmed in Crozet Virginia near Charlottesville, spoke very strongly to my spirit.

The movie starts with Evan, a TV news reporter in Buffalo New York, running for a seat in the U.S. Congress. He wins his campaign using the slogan “Change the world.” Of course, only God can change the world for good. Evan’s new job moves him and his family to rural Virginia. Then God presses in strongly. He commands Evan to build an ark by imprinting Genesis 6:14 (above) on his hard heart.

God has a way of getting His way whenever He wants. When you become aware of how God is working all around you, this becomes obvious. As Proverbs 16:9 states “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.”

What does the ark represent? Salvation! What does the flood represent? Judgment! “In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!'” (Matt 3:1-2).

In the video clip on the official movie website for Evan Almighty, Evan says “People, the flood is imminent… Get on board.” God is warning us in 2007 to repent because judgment is coming soon. Who will save us? Not Evan, not Budda; not Mohammed or Allah; not our good works. Only Jesus can save us. But to be saved, we must make the choice to get on the ark – to receive Him. There is no other name by which we are saved.

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Prayer Power
Jesus, You said “He who hates Me hates My Father also.” (John 15:23). My heart is grieved by all those who don’t know You. My heart is grieved by those who think there is some other way to heaven besides You. My heart is grieved by  those who have never heard the gospel (good news) presented in a loving way. You teach that the god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of those who do not believe (2Co 4:4). We ask You to remove the veil – to open the eyes of understanding of those who don’t believe to Your truth. Thank You Jesus. Amen.
