Frustrated With the State of Your Spiritual Life?
What’s most important to God is that we keep union and fellowship and intimacy with Him!
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
How serious are you about learning from Jesus how to arrange your life?
In yesterday’s devotional I mentioned that I will be doing a series of messages from John Ortberg’s book and teaching series titled “The Life You’ve Always Wanted.” As in a marathon, the secret lies not in trying harder, but in training consistently. Here is what John Ortberg says in the Preface to his teaching series:
If you’ve ever been frustrated with the state of your spiritual life. If you’ve ever wondered why spiritual growth seems to go so slowly. If you’ve ever wondered if real change is possible. If you’ve ever felt confused or stuck in your spiritual life- you’re my kind of person.
I have struggled (and still do struggle) with those same things. But I have also discovered it is possible to live the life I’ve always wanted to live. You see, the Christian gospel insists that the transformation of the human personality really is possible. It is never easy. It is rarely, quick. But it is possible. I see it happening in people sometimes – occasionally even in myself.
In happens any time people become intensely serious about learning from Jesus how to arrange their lives. It happens any time people set their focus on learning to live as Jesus would live if He were in their place.
Throughout the centuries, wise people have devoted themselves to following Jesus this way. This series is an attempt to make some of the wisdom accessible to people who live in a world of freeways, corporate ladders, and X boxes. When you are through, my hope is that You will accept Christ’s invitation to live life His way because it truly is the life you’ve always wanted.
Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, the whole duty of man is to enjoy You and Your presence. When I do that, You take care of the rest. When I experience Your love, I’m able to share that with others. When I’m in Your presence, Your priorities become my priorities. Remind me regularly that I’m a human being, not a human doing. Protect my mind and heart from any harmful tactics of the enemy. Take me to a deeper level in my prayer life and communion with You. Thank You Jesus. Amen and hallelujah!
