Prayer Busters (TBNTP)

11 Oct

The most common cause of unanswered prayer is prayerlessness.

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:16)

What motivates you to develop your personal prayer life?
What drives you to your knees and makes you want to pray more?

For many people, the greatest motivator to pray more is answered prayer. By contrast, someone’s prayer life often takes a dive when he prays diligently, fervently, and trustingly without seeming to make any difference. For each unanswered prayer, it’s important to check out possible hindrances.

The most common cause of unanswered prayer is prayerlessness – you hardly pray at all about it. Are you praying regularly, earnestly, and persistently? When was the last time you prayed diligently over a period of time for your spouse, your parents, or your children? For someone to come to know Christ? That God’s power would cause a revolution in your church? That God would use you to work for his glory?

A second reason for unanswered prayer is unconfessed sin, which cuts off communication with the Father. As Isaiah 59:2a says, “Your iniquities have separated you from God.” God expects us to maintain strict personal integrity. He expects us to show thoughtfulness and love toward others and to maintain a relationship with Him.

A third prayer buster is unresolved relational conflict. Most of us grossly underestimate how committed God is to building and maintaining a loving community. There is little benefit in praying if we are engaged in ongoing conflict with a family member, a coworker, a neighbor, or a friend.

Other prayer busters include selfishness, uncaring attitudes, inadequate faith, and failure to put our faith into action.

If the truth were known, often you and I are the only obstacles standing in the way of our receiving a desperately needed miracle. Our requests and timing may be right. But when our lives are wrong, God says “Before I grant your request, I want you to grow.”

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, thank You for the precious gift of prayer. Guide my thoughts, words, and deeds to eliminate all prayer busters in my life. Help me to achieve me goal to intercede for at least one hour daily by establishing a weekly prayer plan and praying using my written prayer lists. The one thing I desire and seek is “that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple.” (Psalm 27:4). Thank You Jesus. Amen.
