If These Walls Could Talk

11 Apr

The time has come that the youth are now shaping the culture of the world.

He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow, red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You are good at reading the weather signs in the sky, but you can’t read the obvious signs of the times!” (Matt. 16:2-3; NLT)

How would you describe the changes that are occurring around us at ever increasing speeds?

I had planned to join Jerry and Sharon Graham in Dallas Texas for the annual Mannafest gathering in late March. However, because of poor planning on my part, my schedule was too full to be able to leave home and work for 5 days.

On April 2, Jerry wrote a Daily Gram (DG) titled “Did You Know.” In that, Jerry shared that although he and Sharon learned lots of new things at Mannafest, one presentation they saw particularly stood out in his mind and that was the topic of his DG.

Jerry said, “Most of you know that I am coming up fast on my “mature” years, and even though I consider myself fairly up-to-date with computers, the Internet, and the like, I have to admit that things are happening so quickly in recent days that it is getting harder and harder to keep up. The link today is an incredible presentation on how much things are changing and how fast it is happening.

This is not something that you can just shrug off as not being important to you. If you have children, or grandchildren, if those children are in school, or if you home-educate (as a lot of our friends do), you need to watch this presentation. If you have a business, or a church, or a ministry of any kind, you need to watch this presentation. There are some challenging questions at the end that deserve some serious thought…and prayer.”

On April 4, Jerry wrote a second Daily Gram titled “If These Walls Could Talk” about this topic of a major shift in the world’s culture. After our Implementation coaching phone conversation on April 3, Jerry highly recommended I watch both YouTube videos one right after the other. I did and the impact was profound. Visit today’s Link of the Day to read Jerry’s two Daily Gram’s and to See the two profound YouTube videos. This will help open your eyes of understanding to the stark reality of what’s going on with technology and education in today’s young generation.

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the Rock among shifting sands. Thank You for opening my eyes of understanding to how the web and other technologies are already profoundly shaping the culture of the world. Birth a desire in young people to reclaim the web for YOu. Teach me how to most effectively connect and unite Your people via the web. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

“Shift happens.” – from today’s link

How would you describe the changes that are occurring around us at ever increasing speeds?

He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow, red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You are good at reading the weather signs in the sky, but you can’t read the obvious signs of the times!” (Matt. 16:2-3; NLT)

Last week, Sharon and I spent Wednesday through Sunday in Dallas at the annual conference of the wellness company we work with. We learned lots of new things that we’re eager to share, but one presentation we saw that stood out in my mind is the topic of today’s DG.

Most of you know that I am coming up fast on my “mature” years, and even though I consider myself fairly up-to-date with computers, the Internet, and the like, I have to admit that things are happening so quickly in recent days that it is getting harder and harder to keep up. The link today is an incredible presentation on how much things are changing and how fast it is happening.

This reminds me of the old story of the frog in the kettle who didn’t jump out as the water got hotter and hotter because he was unaware of the change that was happening around him. Are you sensitive to the changes that are going on around you?

Prayer Power
Lord, thank You for being the Rock among shifting sands. Thank You that we can always know that no matter how much things around us change, Your love for us is ever constant.

If These Walls Could Talk (April 4, 2008)

“Today’s child is bewildered when he enters the 19th century environment that still characterizes the educational establishment where information is scarce but ordered and structured by fragmented, classified patterns, subjects, and schedules.” Marshall McLuhan (40+ years ago)

How well did your education prepare you for the life you are living today?

This is but one of many traditions they have clung to… (Mark 7:4b; NLT)

Today, I’ve just got a very short note to introduce you to another YouTube video of the same genre as last Wednesday’s DG entitled “Did You Know.” This one actually came to me from Regent University, where I have the awesome privilege and responsibility of serving as an Adjunct Professor.

Obviously, the powers that be at Regent sent this out to encourage their professors to consider the relevance of what they teach and how they teach it. However, I believe, just like “Did You Know,” that this video needs to be seen by more than just university profs. Here again, there are some sobering statistics, and some startling revelations. If you’re a parent or grandparent with young adults in college, you need to watch this. This is what you’re paying for. If you’re an employer, you need to watch this…this is what you’ll soon be hiring. If you’re children are younger, this is the system they are destined to enter unless something drastically changes in the next few years.

Again, I believe these two videos are demonstrating that we’re really missing the mark when it comes to so-called “higher” education. But, then again, how can you put together any system that is equipped to respond to change that is happening as rapidly as we are seeing it occur today. And one thing we know for sure…the rate of change will only get faster and faster as time goes on. What’s the answer???

We pray that you have a better than fantastic weekend!

Prayer Power
Lord, we thank You for the dedicated men and women who have given their lives serving others as educators. Unfortunately, it seems that educating our future leaders is not as simple as it once was. We sincerely ask that You would begin to provide answers to those who are in positions of authority that can implement the necessary changes. Grant them the wisdom and ability to make the necessary adjustments.
