Birthmother Ministries

“If I’d had someone stand with me — a friend, my family, anyone — I would have carried my baby to term. But I didn’t.”

A friend loves at all times (Proverbs 17:17)

How can you help spread the word about Birthmother Ministries?

This past Sunday (January 14), I first learned about Birthmother Ministries after hearing a touching testimony of how several women in one of our church LIFE groups recently reached out to prevent an abortion by sharing the love of God with a fearful young lady.

In the Fall of 2006, Soul Purpose Church participated in a 40 day spiritual journey developed by Rick Warren called “40 Days of Community.” The “Better Together” book used for that course poses the question “What on earth are we here for?” This is in contrast to the question “What on earth am I here for?” found on the “40 Days of Purpose” book. During the 40 Days of Community course, Rick Warren encourages each small group to come up with one service project together.

According to the Elliott Institute, 83% of women who struggle after an abortion say they would have changed their decision if they’d had support from a partner, family member or special person during pregnancy.

One of life’s most frightening scenarios is finding out you’re pregnant when you didn’t plan to be. And much of the time, a woman faces that alone. She doesn’t have to. At Birthmothers, they train volunteer Friends to walk one-on-one with a woman in an unplanned pregnancy. A Friend provides a listening ear … unconditional acceptance … a shoulder to cry on. Emotional and spiritual support.

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, thank You for sparing the life of this one baby. Thank You for the ladies at Soul Purpose Church who are reaching out in real terms to decrease abortion in a positive way. Thank You for Birthmother Ministries. Multiply the number of “Friends” in that ministry many fold. Help spread the good news. Thank You Jesus. Amen.
