Sabbath Inspiration: War Room
Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men. (Proverbs 22:29)
“So if I asked you what your prayer life is like, would you say it is hot or cold?” – War Room movie
On September 2, 2015 I received an email from Margaret Tierney saying “I just saw the movie ‘War Room’ and I thought it was excellent. It is about going into your prayer closet. If you get a chance, go see it while it is in the theaters.” My plate was full, so I did not follow through at that time.
Then yesterday (September 4) I stumbled across the movie again when I was taken serendipitously to the Breaking Christian News website. After watching the outstanding official movie trailer, I felt inspired to let my followers know about this treasure when I sent my next Sabbath Inspiration.
This morning (September 5) I was preparing a Sabbath Inspiration titled “Power Breakthrough” based on a recent live broadcast with Patricia King. That was the message I intended to send this morning. However, while doing that, I was inspired to include a short message about War Room. That led me to search my recent emails for ones that contained the words “War Room”.
To my surprise, I stumbled across a new email from my uncle (who recently presided over the wedding of my daughter) titled “Faith-based indy movie strikes box-office gold“. That message really grabbed my attention. The email included a link to a great article and video that came from a 4 minute live broadcast of the TV show “CBS This Morning”.
Here is an excerpt from the outstanding article on the CBS News website:
One of the most popular movies in America is one studios didn’t think would succeed, CBS News’ Elaine Quijano reports.
Unlike most films, the team behind “War Room” didn’t rely on Hollywood’s typical means of promotion of expensive commercials and glamorous premieres.
Instead, the filmmakers partnered with a network of influential pastors to promote a film with a decidedly Christian-based message — a strategy that’s turning it into one of the summer’s biggest successes.
With a primarily African-American cast, “War Room” tells the story of an affluent couple whose marriage is in trouble until they discover the healing power of prayer.
It’s a message filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick believe the public needed to hear.
“For people of faith, much of the entertainment that’s out there is dishonoring to that faith, but we all want to see engaging, enriching, entertaining stories as well. So we long for that. We just want to tell it from a positive vantage point,” Alex Kendrick said.
That grassroots promotion helped “War Room,” with a budget of just $3 million, rake in nearly four times as much money on its opening weekend.

I plan to see War Room this weekend. If you live in the USA and the movie is playing in a theater near you, I encourage you to go. Enjoy!
If you have already watched War Room or plan to do so in the near future, please consider sharing your feedback at the bottom of this blog post.
Blessings to go to battle in the War Room!
