Sabbath Inspiration: You know better than I

24 Oct

Most Christians salute the sovereignty of God but believe in the sovereignty of man.” – R.C. Sproul

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9)

How many times have you thought you did what was right, had the answer, and chose the surest road, yet it ended up in disappointment?

I’ve had that happen more times than I like to admit.

Life has many twists and turns. We’re less in charge of our lives than we think. While man has free will, God is sovereign. His plans will prevail. Many of our biggest breakthroughs happen through serendipity.

What seems to be good at the time, sometimes ends up leaving a sour taste. And what seems bad at the time, ends up opening new and unexpected opportunities that leave a pleasant aroma. As the lyrics in the song “More Thank You Take” state:

You’re just a player in a much bigger plan,
And still you have to give it all that you can,
The very measure of your soul is at stake,
You’ve got to give a little more than you take,

My company and our staff are going through a megashift right now. While growth is painful, not growing destroys.

This past week, one of my workers sent me an email saying, “Thank you for our talk. You’re on the right track. Keep letting Him course correct you. He is setting all things in order.”

And then she included a link to this inspiring and animated song in a YouTube video. That song and the lyrics really ministered to me and I knew immediately that was to be the title to this week’s message. Enjoy!

Lyrics for “Better Than I”

I thought I did what’s right
I thought I had the answer
I thought I chose the surest road
But that road led me here
So I put up a fight
And told You how to help me
And just when I had given up
The truth is coming clear

[Chorus]
For You know better than I
You know the way
I’ve let go, the need to know why
Cause You know better than I

If this has been a test
I cannot see the reason
But maybe knowin’, I don’t know
Is part of gettin through
I try to do what’s best
And faith has made it easy
To see the best thing I can do
Is put my faith in You

[Chorus]

I saw one cloud and thought it was the sky
I saw a bird and thought that I could follow
But it was You who taught them how to fly
If I let you reach me, will You teach me

For You know better than I
You know the way
I’ve let go, the need to know why
I’ll take what answer You supply
Cause You know better than I

If you are going through a particularly difficult challenge or season in your life right now, watch this video several times and meditate on the lyrics. Then ask God to show you what’s happening from His perspective. Right down in your journal what you hear. Maybe it’s time to let go and let God.

The greatness of the man’s power is the measure of his surrender.” – William Booth

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Prayer Power
Abba, Father, thank You for the precious gift of another day of life. Thank You for the gift of family and friends. Thank You for being my way, my truth, and my life. Thank You for protecting me from myself and my agenda to keep me on Your path. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done in my home, habits, and heart. I choose to trust in You LORD with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. I choose to acknowledge You. Thank You for Your promise that You shall direct My paths when I do that. Have your way in my life, dreams, and destiny. You know what’s best Daddy. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen and hallelujah!

Blessings to trust in God and lean not on your own understanding!

Joseph

2) Song and lyrics for “More Thank You Take”

Lyrics for “More Thank You Take”

A single voice,
Is joined by multitudes in song,
With every verse,
They’re finding harmonies that rise to Heaven sure and strong.
Richer and richer the soil on which they thrive,
and Higher a hymn of what it means to be alive

You’ve got to give a little more than you take,
You’ve got to leave a little more than was here,
You maybe prideful of the strides you will make,
But keep one thing clear,
You’re just a player in a much bigger plan,
And still you have to give it all that you can,
The very measure of your soul is at stake,
You’ve got to give a little more than you take,

The seasons fly,
A man stands where a boy once stood,
His path unfolds,
And unafraid he walks in service of a greater good,
Deeper and deeper the lessons he has known,
Over and over the message he is surely being shown

You’ve got to give a little more than you take,
You’ve got to leave a little more than was here,
You maybe prideful of the strides you will make,
But keep one thing clear,
You’re just a player in a much bigger plan,
And still you have to give it all that you can,

The very measure of your soul is at stake,
You’ve got to give a little more than you take.

Wow! just crying out to the Lord this morning-show me my future Lord. From this beautiful video, I can see He is guiding me into it. My job is to stop trying to tell Him what to do and to completely Trust Him. Let Go and Let Him take care of everything. He knows what I need and His Plan is better than anything I can imagine. No matter what is looks like, He will never leave me nor forsake me. Thanks Joseph for sharing your thoughts that help me think deeply about His ways.

    Dear Joseph,

Though I am not always well and believing God for my healing, I have let Him process me during this time of healing. Thank you so much for all that you put out. I do wished that I could sign up for Cheryl-Ann’s training, but finances dictate something else. Bless you for all that you put out in serving the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This song touched my heart.
