Sunday Inspiration: Validation

15 Feb

What is ONE THING you can do today that by doing it more people will be encouraged?

Yesterday, I stumbled across a short message by David Begin on Facebook about the importance of validation. That reminded me of a good article and great video titled “The Power of Validation” that Dr. Jerry Graham posted in 2008.

Watching that video brought tears to my eyes and reminded me of how something as simple as a smile or a word of encouragement can make a profound difference in someone’s life. We all need encouragement. We all need people who believe in us and the dreams God has placed within us – people who love us unconditionally and despite our weaknesses call out the greatness within us.

The apostle Paul, who ultimately became the greatest salesman in the history of the world for the Word of God (Jesus), had Barnabas come alongside of him to open doors he could have never opened on his own. Barnabas recognized the calling of God on Paul’s life and did something to enable that.

Acts 4:36 – And Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus,

Acts 9:26-27 – And when Saul (Paul) had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples; but they were all afraid of him, and did not believe that he was a disciple. But Barnabas took him (Paul) and brought him to the apostles. And he declared to them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that He had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.

Who has God placed in your life who is waiting for someone to come alongside to inspire them?

My former pastor Matt Gregory used to say we all need three kinds of people in our lives

  1. A person ahead of us, to show us the way, to coach, mentor, and disciple us
  2. Peers who are growing with us
  3. A person we are helping to coach, mentor, or disciple

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, we praise You as the God of encouragement, the greatest Encourager ever, the God who validates us. Put it in our hearts to slow down and validate others more than we do. Give us clear opportunities to genuinely appreciate others for who You made them to be. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen!
