Listening to God is like listening to anyone – before you can hear Him, you must be ready to listen!
“when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:3)
Are you listening to God when you pray?
How do you listen to God when you pray?
It’s an honor to be able to speak to God. We don’t have to go through a priest or a saint or any other intermediary. We don’t have to follow any prescribed rituals. We don’t have to wait for an appointment. Anywhere, anytime, under any circumstances, we can “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)
It’s ironic though, that most of the time we think of prayer as talking to God, rarely stopping to wonder whether God might want to talk to us. God wants to speak. How does God speak to us?
One way is through his Word. As we read and meditate on it, He applies it to our lives. Another way God speaks to us is through people. A third way God speaks to us is through direct leadings of the Holy Spirit. According to Scripture, He leads, rebukes, comforts, and assures Christ’s followers.
A lot of Christians, however, don’t expect God to speak to them. By their actions you would expect that Jesus packed up and went back to heaven forty days after His resurrection and hasn’t been heard from since.
There are two misguided approaches. Some people are so heavenly minded that they are of little earthly use. Other people want to obey the Holy Spirit but they’re just not sure how they’d know when He was really speaking.
Why is it important to be interested in the Holy Spirit leadings in your life? 1) Your eternal destiny is determined by how you respond to these leadings. 2) Your assurance as a Christian depends in part on how you receive and respond to them. 3) Your growth as a Christian depends on receiving and responding to leadings.
Father I praise You as the living God who speaks to me every day. I love to listen to Your voice. I will praise You LORD for Your righteousness, for Your holiness. I will praise You LORD whether I win or lose. I will thank You God everywhere I am. I will sing for joy to my God and king. For the blood of the Lamb has set me free. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

There is tremendous power in a testimony. “And they overcame him (the devil) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” – Revelations 12:11
