How to Listen to God

26 Jul

Hear with your heart!

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27)

Charles Stanley is one of my favorite preachers and teachers. He pastors a large church in Atlanta and founded In Touch Ministries and the Charles Stanley Institute for Christian Living. I appreciate Dr. Stanley’s humility and practical life-changing messages. The following paragraph comes from the August 2006 In Touch devotional book.

God’s voice is most often heard in the quietness of a humble heart. In today’s world, people and responsibilities at home, at work, and at church are constantly competing for your attention. While you can enjoy great blessings from activities and relationships, nothing compares with hearing from the Lord. In his book “How to Listen to God”, Dr. Stanley teaches that the Creator of the universe is not a silent God, but a loving Father who longs to communicate His love and guidance to His children. Whether the Lord desires to encourage, teach, or correct you, He always speaks for your benefit. Slow down and take the time to listen – you’ll be blessed by what he has to say.

Are you hearing from the Lord?
Would you benefit from reading Dr. Stanley’s book “How to Listen to God”?

Prayer Power
Abba, Father, thank You for the quiet times in my days when I can be still and listen to You. Quiet my soul each day by helping me drown out both the external noise around me and internal noise within me. May those who read this message listen to Your voice and to follow You. Thank You Jesus! Amen.
