God, Why Am I Sick?

15 Jan

Your health is your responsibility, not the responsibility of your physician or other health care providers!

He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. (Proverbs 28:13)

Are you sick?
Which of the 4 reasons below do you think might be the cause?

From a biblical perspective, there are least 4 reasons why people get sick:

1) Original sin: This sickness reminds me that they I am spiritually dead. The remedy is to be born again (John 3:3).

2) Personal sin: This sickness is a result of my sinful choices (Hebrews 12:6-7). When we try to avoid or kill the pain of sin’s consequences, we are only anesthetizing our soul – not curing our illness. God wants to heal our souls.

Poor choices lead to natural consequences and then another set of choices. We can:
a) Ignore the consequence
b) Willfully defy God, which may lead to a swift death (1 John 5:16, 1 Cor 11:30)
c) Repent. This is the remedy. Repenting is to agree in our heart that the way we are going is contrary to God’s will. Repentance always starts in the heart and must manifest in action. (Ez 18:32, Hosea 6:1)

3) God’s plan: This sickness contributes to God’s plan for good. (John 9:3)
a) God wants an opportunity to show His love and power
b) God is getting glory (Job 2:3-6)
c) God is preparing you to help others (Luke 8:3, 2 Cor 1:4)

The remedy for this is to choose God’s glory over your personal comfort. The world doesn’t revolve around you.

4) Aging: Eventually physical body parts begin wearing out because we live in a fallen world.

Prayer Power
Father, for those of us who are spiritually reborn, help us to be good stewards with our bodies, which are temples of Your Holy Spirit. May we make godly choices according to Your Word. For those who do not know You personally, draw them near to You and reveal Your love and power. Thank You Jesus. Amen.
