Loves Like A Hurricane

Yesterday I hosted a webinar titled “The Story Behind The Story: Ken McArthur and The Impact Manifesto.” During that webinar, Ken shared one of the most inspiring stories offering HOPE I have ever heard.

Then this morning I received an email from Doug Spada that reached to the core of my being and brought tears to my eyes. Doug wrote,

Hey Joseph,

You bless people so much. You inspire me with your gift of communication and love to others. I look forward to connecting on couple levels very soon. Ryan will see to it!!

The reason I am writing is that Ryan’s 16th is today. I am writing a handful of men that Ryan respects and admires. You are on that list – yea! I would so appreciate it if you could write Ryan a short email note speaking blessing on his life on this very special day.

What a wonderful thing for a father to do for his son to to ask for a favor like this. I took prompt action and sent a Dayspring e-card sharing a profound and prophetic message from God’s heart through my heart to Ryan’s heart. As I did that my eyes were filled with tears once again.

Then I began writing my reply to Doug. As I did that, the God story grew. Special memories starting coming to my mind as I reviewed photos from when I first met Doug in Aug 2006 at the Founder’s Inn when Os Hillman hosted the International Coalition of Workplace Ministries Leaders Roundtable. Of all the new people I met there, Doug’s message impacted me the most.

Doug is the founder of WorkLife: Finding Life In Work and the recent author of “Monday Morning Atheist.”

When I think of Doug, I think of the word HUMILITY and this scripture

By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches and honor and life.” (Proverbs 22:4)

As I was writing my email to Doug this morning, I was prompted to create this new YDB blog posted titled “Loves Like A Hurricane.” That’s the way Doug love his children. It’s wonderful for me to see that. Thank you Doug for being a wonderful father and man of God!

When I was talking recently to a Master’s Mind Marketing partner, I was told about a recent TV interview of Aiko Hormann by Patricia King called Three Brains.

From what Aiko Hormann shared, I learned that we each have Three Brains, including the head brain, the gut brain, and the heart brain. I also learned that emotional memories are stored in the heart and gut.

Another thing I learned is that Aiko has written a booklet called “Living in the Miraculous.” Aiko talked about the importance of saying “It is written …” and then quoting scripture to live in the miraculous. That really resonated with my spirit.

Sunday Inspiration: The chief end of man

In the Fall of 2010 I went to a highly inspirational, revival meeting at Novum Baptist Church in Madison Virginia. Several of the speakers had traveled signficant distances to teach and inspire those who came.

One of the speakers I met was S.J. Hill and after conversing with him, I purchased his book, Enjoying God. In his Introduction to that book, S.J. Hill writes:

What is the meaning of life? It’s a question that has been debated by everyone from philosophers and theologians to college students in their dorm rooms. I believe the Westminster Confession contains the best answer to this age-old issue. Contemplating the reason for man’s existence, seventeenth-century theologians concluded that “the chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.”

I remember the first time I read this statement. My heart leaped. There was something about the idea of enjoying God that inspired me. It captured my imagination. For weeks, I found myself asking the same burning questions — “Is is possible for someone to truly enjoy God?” “Is this what my heart has been longing for all these years?” These questions kept swirling in my mind.

It was during this time that I came across writings by John Piper that left an indelible mark on my life. He suggested that these theologians were not talking about two different things — glorifying God and enjoying Him. Piper felt the best way to capture the real meaning of this statement was to replace the word “and” with “by.” He concluded that “the chief end of man is to glorify God by enjoying Him forever!“

God wants to capture your heart. The commitment He wants from you is not the kind you can work up through some sort of spiritual pep rally. It’s the kind that is born out of intimacy. It stems from a passionate love that causes men and women to forsake everything else for the Pearl of Great Price. Anything less just doesn’t satisfy.

I invite you to take a journey with me into God’s heart. You will never be the same. It’s the journey for which we were created — enjoying God.

For me journaling is the lead domino for my life because it leads to INTIMACY with God, while at the same time it allows be to record my journey with him. Without a doubt, the greatest legacy I will ever leave behind in my journal – full of tens of thousands of God stories, God ideas, and God miracles.

Sunday Inspiration: My Sports Hero Is Tim Tebow

Growing up and in early adulthood, I loved sports. I was a jack-of-all-trades, participating in a variety of sports and activities including basketball, football, skiing, track, cross-country, tennis, racquetball, volleyball, horseback riding, scuba diving, snorkeling, triathlons, swimming, etc. You name it, I played it.

My best event was the 10-yard dash. Being faster than almost everyone else allowed me to compete with many people who were more skillful than me. It’s been said you can coach skill, but not speed.

Because my father was in the military and we spent 8 of the first 15 years of my life living in Italy and Germany, I did not watch much TV growing up, nor did I really fall in love with a single sports team or sports celebrity in America. I much preferred to play sports than watch them.

When I went to the University of Virginia for undergraduate school, I fell in love with college basketball. Games were relatively short, action packed, and exiting because you never knew who would beat who on any given day. There was even a long stretch where UVA was ranked #1 in the nation. Imagine that.

As our kids were growing up, I coached soccer. Before that, I had very little interest in soccer, nor did I understand the game. However, as I learned the rules and developed an appreciation of the skills necessary to be a great soccer player, I fell in love with that sport. Because of my wife, our family actually got to have dinner with the U.S. Women’s world championship soccer team, including Mia Hamm, the greatest player in the history of women’s soccer.

I tell you all this because now I finally have a sports hero, someone I look up to not only as a good athlete, but as a wonderful and godly role model. Perhaps more than anyone in professional football today, Tim Tebow is taking a strong and open stand for Jesus. His religious style is so bold, and his character so distinctive, that both are impossible to ignore.

In 2007, Tim won the Heisman Trophy for college football, the first college sophomore ever to do that. In December 2009, he was drafted by the Denver Broncos as the 25th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Yesterday morning as I was lying in bed, I heard in my spirit, intercede for Tim Tebow today. According to Seth Ross, my daughter’s fiance, Tim is not well liked by the new Broncos head coach (John Fox) and general manager (John Elway).

When Tim took over as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos in mid season this year, Denver went on to win 7 out of 8 games, before losing their last 3 and barely squeaking into the playoffs. This was a strong spiritual attack.

Will you join me in interceding for Tim?

Today at 4:30 pm, Tim is leading the Denver Broncos in a wild card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Mile High Stadium in Denver.

Yesterday I received the American Family Association’s ACTION newsletter for January 2012 in the mail. What was written on the outside of that envelope grabbed my attention, so I opened it and read the message from Tim Wildmon, President of the AFA.

How to drive secularists crazy

What Tim Wildmon wrote about the Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow really struck a cord with me.

This morning while I was lying in bed, the Holy Spirit instructed me to intercede for Tim Tebow today.

I thought the Denver Broncos were playing their wildcard playoff game today, but it turns out they are playing the Pittsburgh Steelers at home tomorrow (Sunday January 8) at 3:30 pm. This game will be broadcast on CBS.

When I was at my desk, I was led to do some kind of Google search about Tim Tebow. This led to more interest and more research. Then I was prompted to write my Sunday Inspiration for tomorrow and titled that “My Sports Hero Is Tim Tebow.”

After doing that, I was prompted to spend 90 minutes typing all four pages of Tim Wildmon’s January 2012 newsletter and posting that message on Your Daily Blessing blog.

In the process of doing that, I came across Rod Stone’s YouTube video titled “The Prayer” and Janet Parshall’s 60-minute documentary “Speechless…Silencing the Christians.”

So what? Now what?

Tim Tebow is under terrific spiritual attack.

According to Seth Ross, my daughter’s fiance, Tim is not well liked by the new Broncos head coach (John Fox) and general manager (John Elway).

God is asking us to intercede for Tim Tebow today and during tomorrow’s football game. Will you join me?

Tim Tebow is a good athlete and a wonderful godly role model for young people. Perhaps more than anyone in professional football today, Tim Tebow is taking a strong and open stand for Jesus. His religious style is so bold, and his character so distinctive, that both are impossible to ignore.

On Sunday January 8, 2012 Tim will lead the Denver Broncos in a wild card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Mile High Stadium in Denver.

Thank You that Tim understands what a godly order of priorities are and that he manifests those. Thank You for the great role model he is to our youth. Father, I ask You to greatly encourage and inspire Tim today, tomorrow, and in the upcoming weeks. Grant him extraordinary favor. Help Tim to feel and respond to the prayers of the saints from around the world. Bless Tim as he leads the Denver Broncos tomorrow against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Grant him and his team favor that they may glorify Your name. May Your critics be silenced as Tim rises up to glorify You. We praise You Father and bless Your holy name. In Jesus name, we pray. Dear AFA partner,

Secularists in America are angry at Christians. Not all Christians, but Christians like you and me, who strive to live our faith outside the four walls of the church.

There was a time in our nation when no one would have taken offense to a public expression of faith in Jesus such as prayer at a football game or a Nativity on public property. But now … well, things have changed.

Today a stand for Jesus is often labeled as extreme and Christians are marked as fair game for public mockery.

Take the case of Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.

You might think the critiques of Tebow’s performance would be limited to the football field. But you’d be wrong. Tebow has become the whipping boy of anti-Christian secularists. Why?

Tebow is a stellar athlete who won the Heisman Trophy in 2007. He’s good-looking, polite, and respectful. You’d think all of America would love him.

But apparently many don’t. You see, Tim Tebow is known for his stand for Jesus Christ on the field and in media interviews. Throughout his football career he has written Scripture references in the eye black he wears on his face during games. He has spent summers on the mission field. He’s made it clear that he is a virgin and will remain so until he marries.

Tim Tebow doesn’t act the way the world wants him to act. And because he doesn’t, he is attacked, mocked, and ridiculed. George Weigel of the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C. explained why:

“Tebow is a target of irrational hatred, not because he’s an iffy quarterback at the NFL level, or a creep personally or an obnoxious, in-your-face, self-righteous proselytizer. He draws hatred because he is an unabashed Christian, whose calmness and decency in the face of his Christophobic detractors drive them crazy.”

You see, those who want to tear down what’s left of our nation’s moral fabric are waging a war against those who stand for Christian values like the sanctity of human life.

At a NARAL Pro-Choice America event, Housing and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius came right out and told a pro-abortion audience, “We are in a war.”

Consider these other recent examples of how anti-Christian bias is growing in our nation:

Frank Turek: A friend of AFA, Turek had led a number of well-received leadership training seminars at Cisco, a worldwide Internet technology company. Although the issue of homosexuality is not mentioned in the seminar, Turek was fired after a homosexual manager complained about Turek’s book “Correct, Not Politically Correct: How Same Sex Marriage Hurts Everyone.”

Jennifer Keeton: Augusta State University (Georgia) expelled Keeton from its graduate counseling program for refusing to attend sensitivity training and mix with men and women at homosexual events. She had also submitted a term paper in which she wrote that it would be hard for her to work with homosexual clients.

Viki Knox: School officials in Union Township, New Jersey, launched a full-scale investigation fo the special education teacher after homosexual activists attacked her for posting comments critical of homosexuality on her personal Facebook page.

Ken Howell: The University of Illinois fired him because of an email he sent students prior to an exam. The class was titled “Introduction to Catholicism and Modern Catholic Thought.” Prof. Howell’s pre-exam email read: “Sexual acts are only appropriate for people who are (biologically) complementary, not the same.” A student called the email “hate speech” and the school fired Howell.

And anti-Christian bias is not limited to the gay agenda. Our friends at the Family Research Council offered this list of recent attacks on Christians and Christian symbols.

New Jersey: A university hospital coerced nurses to assist in abortions.

Utah: A federal court ordered the Utah Highway Patrol Association to take down crosses commemorating fallen officers.

California: Marines at Camp Pendleton were challenged to take down a 13-foot cross after they placed it atop a mountain.

Virginia: The Giles County School Board is being challenged to remove a Ten Commandments display.

California, New York, Maryland, and Texas: Pregnancy resource centers are being attacked for their counseling and refusal to perform abortions.

Montana: An atheist group is demanding that a statue of Christ that sits on federal land atop Whitefish Mountain Resort be removed.

I could list more, but you get the picture.

I predict that as America continues this drift away from God, bias and mockery will turn into full-fledged persecution.

As Rev. Ryan Gold, pastor of New Covenant Community Church in Denver, Colorado, said during a recent AFA Journal interview:

“[The ridicule of Tim Tebow] has to do with his vocal stand for the gospel of Jesus Christ and the social implications of the gospel that he’s promulgated publicly for years. He’s as counter-cultural and as committed a Christian as they come. Pop culture doesn’t understand this. When carnal pleasure is at the fingertips of a young man like Tim and he instead chooses to live for Jesus Christ, it convicts, challenges, and gently condemns and calls out for attention. It exposes the culture war in our country for what it is – spiritual battle between light and darkness.”

I am convinced that Rev. Gold is right …

… we are in a spiritual war between light and dark.

But this should come as no surprise to you.

“If the world hates you, know that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” (John 15:18-19)

Almost immediately after saying that, however, our Lord comforted us with this assurance:

“I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

He has overcome the world! And now He looks to us – His disciples – to proclaim that truth to others in words, deeds, and by our lifestyle.

And while we rejoice when persecuted (Matt 5:10-12), it doesn’t mean that we should rejoice over the assault against the truth that is manifested by that persecution. Rather, we must defend the truth of God’s Word (1 Peter 3:15), a defense that promotes the keeping of God’s law as good for society.

That’s what we’ve been doing for over thirty years! Since the day God called Dad to form this ministry, we’ve stood alongside you and other God-fearing Americans to fight for biblical principles in our society.

It’s hard to believe another year has passed by so quickly. Yet the dawning of a new year brings much hope and anticipation.

For me the saddest event of the past year was the unexpected death of one of neighbors.

While 2011 was full of many happy moments and wonderful blessings, one of my favorite highlights was the opportunity to attend and speak at the Kingdom Economic Yearly Summit (KEYS) in February. Thank you Dr. Bruce Cook for opening that door.

I’m thankful for the many family get togethers we enjoyed and for the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people from around the world through the webinars I hosted. Thank you to all of you who chose to attend those.

On December 8, 2011, I sent an email to about 1,500 of my subscribers inviting them to a webinar later that evening titled “Keys to Supernatural Favor and Increase.” In response to my email, Marlee Huber, founder of You Flourishing Life, sent a reply stating:
