Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day. (2 Samuel 23:20)

How do you respond to unpleasant circumstances or unkind people?
At noon on Wednesday May 2, four our us gathered in the downtown Culpeper prayer room to pray for one another and for the upcoming NDP events. This was my first time  praying with Rev. Brad Hales. Wow, what a treat! Brad talked about getting back to the …

The Spirit of God makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God!
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27)

How is the tragedy at Virginia Tech going to impact your prayer life?
Yesterday morning (Monday), Virginia Tech University suffered what authorities are calling the deadliest campus shooting in US history. At least 33 people were killed, and dozens more wounded, after a gunman went on a shooting rampage. All classes were cancelled, and entrances to the campus were sealed.
It’s ironic that at 11 AM yesterday, Virginia Morton and I …

A positive thought always leads to a positive act!
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)
How do you respond to crisis and problems with those you love the most?
Today is day #2 in our series about “The Positive Family” by Arvella Schuller.
If we don’t start right, we don’t end up right. To attain success in family life, it is necessary that we begin in right order. If we are to begin to succeed in family relationships, we need to understand that there is a …

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. (Ephesians 4:29)
How can your family thrive with all the challenges of the 21st century?
Mrs. Arvella Schuller, wife of the renowned minister, Dr. Robert H. Schuller, wrote a wonderful book in 1982 called “The Positive Family.” The simple, strong statement “Never, never, never be negative” sums up the book’s message. Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. (James 4:17)
In what areas of your life has God been teaching and testing you recently?
As I mentioned in my devotional two days ago, I participated in the outstanding seminar titled “Walk Thru the Old Testament” on April 30, 2006. After about two hours of teaching, Richard Whittington (our instructor) asked us to write down our thoughts concerning two questions in our …

We need to give God our best in every area!
But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
1) When your back is against the wall, when it seems there is no way out, you have to FACE YOUR FEARS.
2) We need to give God our best in every area. And if we win, we praise Him. And if we lose, we praise Him.
3) Your attitude is like the aroma of your heart. If your attitude stinks, …

The secret of life is just one thing!

“We don’t really determine our destiny; we discover it!” – Bishop Tony Miller
“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward …
