Boy 2010 went by fast. It seemed like a big blur until I started to review highlights from my journal and post photos for the entire year at Flickr. Then I was able to appreciate how rich the year really was. Our family is SO BLESSED. And we are grateful for EVERY good gift that comes from above, from the Father of lights.

I understand first hand why Jim Rohn (known as America’s foremost business philosopher) said the three greatest treasures to leave behind for the next generation are pictures, your journal, and your library. Your library includes your collection of books, audios, videos, etc that taught you, helped you develop a philosophy and defend your ideals, and shaped you to become who you are, hopefully influential and sophisticated, but definitely unique.

For more than 10 years in a row, Julia and I sent out beautiful custom Christmas cards and letters each year in the mail. By the time our last mailing went out for Christmas of 2007, we had almost 1,000 people on our list. Sending out those cards would take more than a week of our time and cost about $1,000.

This year, with our combined email lists, we are sending our special greeting to more than 2,000 people at no cost and the total time to review my journal, write this letter, and upload photos for the entire year took less than 2 days. And our multimedia message includes a variety of links.

 
We consider our family Christmas card one of the best gifts we can give to you because it’s the gift of ourselves, sharing our lives with you.

If I had to pick one word to summarize 2010 it would be BREAKTHROUGH. In early Dec 2009, I began taking a 10-week Breakthrough Life Coach training course taught by Janet Daughtry. That led to a whole chain reaction of breakthroughs.

For example, later in December 2009, our son Robbie asked me to start coaching him again on a weekly basis. Within a month or two, I began calling our sessions “Breakthrough Life Coaching” sessions and sure enough Robbie began experiencing major breakthroughs quickly. In the Spring of 2010, Robbie told me this was the best year of his life and a week later he told me the greatest gift I could have ever given him was my gift of coaching.

On February 1, 2010 I officially launched my free e-course called “30 Days To Breakthrough” teaching people how to be good stewards with their Time, Talent, Treasure, and Temple. This was something I had wanted to do for about 2 years. Nine months after the launch, I had subscribers from at least 40 states and 36 countries. And the list keeps growing and growing automatically each month. I sense this will be the greatest legacy I leave behind to change lives and disciple nations. CLICK HERE to learn more.

On Saturday February 27, I officially began using my middle name (Joseph) instead of my nickname (Randy) per Holy Spirit’s prompting. I spent about 8 hours that first day change my email signature on blogs, email autoresponders, etc. The very next day I received an email out-of-the-blue from Dr. Bruce Cook asking to connect with me. When we first spoke on March 1, we shared stories and dreams for 3 hours. This was amazing because I had been trying to connect with Bruce for 4 months per Nancy Slocum’s recommendation.

Bruce is the founder and convener of KEYS, the Kingdom Economic Yearly Summit, the Christian equivalent of the World Business Forum. Over the course of the year, Bruce opened many new doors of opportunity for me, including meeting many highly influential people.

On my birthday (March 18), heavenly Father released His birthday gift to the world – “The Father’s Blessing” webinar with Bruce Cook. This was by far the most popular webinar I had ever hosted up to then with 119 people registering from at least 22 states and 9 countries.

This webinar and my evolving relationship with Bruce eventually opened the door to host the VISIONS777 12-week, 24 webinars series, casting God’s visions for the next decade. What Holy Spirit did during this webinar series was so huge. A series of books will eventually be written about the fruit resulting from this.

The highlight for Julia and me this year was our trip in late August to Washington state for our nephew Andy’s wedding. This was a great opportunity to get together on several wonderful occasions with extended family, many of whom we had not seen for more than 10 years. Icing on the cake for this trip to Washington was the opportunity to stay for 3 nights at the home of Rod and Carrie Stone in Anacordis. CLICK HERE to see photos from our trip.

Julia had a transitional year in 2010. While she still is very fit and competed in several triathlons this year (qualifying for the Xterra World Triathlon Championship once again), she spent much more time teaching kickboxing classes at two local gyms.

Julia’s World Bean Roasthers coffee business continued to grow steadily and is now profitable. During the Christmas holiday season, she experience record orders. And we thank each person who has ordered coffee from her.

Caren is now 25 years old. After graduating from the College of William and Mary in May 2007 with a degree in accounting, she moved to northern Virginia near Julia’s mom. For the past year and a half Caren worked for The Carlyle Group. For the past two years, Caren has been dating Seth Roth.

Robbie is 23 years old, having graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Systems Engineering in May 2009. He lives in Arlington near Caren and has been working for Accenture in Washington DC ever since. For the past half year, Robbie has been dating Emily Schuller, the daughter of a retired Navy captain.

We are thankful that both Caren and Robbie prioritize family activities and get togethers.

Maui, our chocolate lab puppy that Caren gave us as a surprise present for Christmas 2009, celebrated her one year birthday on November 15. She has been an absolute delight for Julia and me and our family. And she makes me get out for long walks several times each day.

After reviewing and uploading photos for the past year, it’s obvious to me that the time spent with family has been the most precious.

Other things I especially appreciated this year included:

• Being able to work out of home with a flexible schedule
• Frequent visits with family and friends
• Supporting Julia in her triathlons as her companion and personal photographer
• Continuing to sow good seeds to change lives with my frequent blog posts at yourdailyblessing.com and journal777.com. I just discovered that people from 156 nations of the world visited my Journal777.com blog in 2010.
• Participating in many of the weekly Marching Through Culpeper prayer calls
• Hosting many highly inspirational webinars (learn more)
• A trip to Dayton Ohio with Dr. Jerry Graham to visit Tim Schofield in February (see photos)
• Participating by webcast in the international launch of the Kingdom Marketplace Coalition by Dr. Francis Myles and his team. I was one of the first people to join.
• Going to Kelly Godfrey’s wedding on March 13. I worked with Kelly’s father, Dr. Pete Godfrey for 12 years at Culpeper Hospital. (see photos)
• Visiting Bob & Carol Sims, Bruce Cook, Dr. Francis Myles, and Kyle Newton in Texas March 24-26 (see photos)
• My first trip to Las Vegas with Jerry Graham for an internet marketing conference in April (see photos)
• Participating in and speaking at the “Transforming Men’s Hearts Retreat” at Shenandoah Spring Camp in Madison Virginia on May 14-15 (see photos)
• Going to Richmond on June 16 to support Nancy Slocum for her presentation titled “Making Kingdom Connections Through Blogging” to the Richmond Christians Who Write group. I met Judi Reid in person for the first time. I also met Tom Lacy. (see photos)
• Launching my international Breakthrough Life Coaching career on July 6 when I sent an e-blast to my entire Constant Contact list inviting them to receive a free 30 minute coaching session. 15 people raised their hand within the first 16 hours.
• Getting connected to Will Green. Will called me out-of-the-blue on July 13, exactly fourteen days before the official launch of the Visions777 webinar series, and shared God’s vision given to him during a 50 day fast in early 2010 to raise up 100 million Word Warriors in America in the next decade. Since then we have become dear friends. A few weeks later, Will gifted me a Word Warriors Audio Bible, which has been a tremendous blessing.
• In August, Will Green officially became my first client ever in my $5,000 5-week Master’s Mind Marketing Program. After just two weeks, he told me he already received more than his money’s worth.
• Partnering with Michael Oswald to get ready to launch a virtual “30-60-100 Master’s Mind Marking Project For CEO’s “

Holy Spirit revealed to me that my key word for 2011 is COMMITMENT, my key scripture is James 5:12 – “Let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’ and your ‘no’ be ‘no’!“, and my key question is “What will be your legacy?”

Some simple written goals I have set for 2011 include

• Praying three times each day like Daniel did
• Memorizing Psalm 91 in January 2011 as I pray that and personalize it 3x/day
• Writing and publishing a new book “UNCOMMON Journaling For Divine Destiny” by May 31, 2011
• Personally hosting 5 webinars/week by March 2011
• Intentionally growing the subscribers for “30 Days To Breakthrough” to 10,000 or more by Dec 31, 2011 through Social Media and reaching someone in every nation of the world
• Doubling our family’s gross business income each month during 2011

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

What adversity do you need to overcome through rejoicing?

I apologize for the delay in sending you today’s message. In my devotional on November 26, I committed to share photos and highlights from the November 25 Culpeper Community Thanksgiving Service on Nov 27. However, like many of you, my past few days have been filled with enjoyable moments with family and friends during this special Thanksgiving week.

I remain acutely aware that for many people, including those with estranged families or who have recently lost loved ones, the holiday time can seem quite lonely and even depressing. Please pray for my dear friends Sharon and Jerry Graham. Sharon’s father was in a car accident last week and died on November 24. His memorial service was held on November 28 in Pennsylvania. When I spoke with Jerry on Nov 29, he told me Walter’s funeral was the best one he had ever been to and that it was extremely well attended. Lois Lucas, Walter’s wife who is in very poor health, was able to attend the entire service. Thank You Jesus.

Along with other members and guests of the Culpeper Ministerial Association, I was privileged to attend a luncheon at noon on Tuesday November 25 with Dr. John W. Kinney. That tradition of meeting with the keynote speaker for lunch on the day of the Culpeper Community Thanksgiving service began last year and it’s something I really look forward to.

The actual Culpeper Community Thanksgiving service in the evening on November 25 was awesome. I estimate that about 500-700 people came. What impressed me the most was the level of worship and the UNITY, especially between races and churches. Thank you to all the local government and school officials who came.

While I truly enjoyed every part of the two hour service, these things stood out for me:

1) The love and passion (burning fire for Jesus), manifested by our local pastors such as Mark Jenkins, Dr. Ted Fuson, Jeff Light, Habacuc Diaz Lopez, Charlene Phillips, Michael Gray, Jacob Phillips, and Randy Orndorff.

2) The lyrics and passion in the songs sung by the Culpeper Middle School choir, Immersed (Lee Catherine Clayton and Cammie Shelatz), Laura Nelson, and  Mrs. Janette Smith.

3) The strong support for the Culpeper Food Closet and the new homeless initiative by the Culpeper Ministerial Association. Thank You to Pastor Chad Whaley for launching the latter. Jesus told us to take special care of the downtrodden – the poor, the hungry, the widows, the orphans, the sick, and those in prison. When the Body of Christ does that, people will be attracted to Jesus.

4) Dr. John W. Kinney’s passionate message about rejoicing always. He emphasized that we are to rejoice in the Lord, not necessarily in our circumstances.

5) Pastor Randy Orndorff’s very touching and authentic message about his daughter Kelsey and the significance of the number 33.

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, thank You for the passion for Jesus You are stirring up among Your people in Culpeper and Virginia. Thank You for the UNITY among pastors and races. May You add many more logs to the spiritual fire until finally a forest fire of revival and awakening breaks out to impact the word for Jesus. Amen and hallelujah!

Are you willing to pray for favor for the FCA for one week? One month?

As mentioned in my devotional on November 20, November 18 was the best day of 2008 for me. One of my highlights for that day was attending the annual FCA Fundraising banquet in Fredericksburg VA. During that banquet, God rekindled the fire in my heart to bless the FCA and teens, especially in Culpeper and Virginia.

The banquet room at the Holiday Inn Express in Central Park was full with about 400 people. Julia and I were blessed to be seated at a table near the stage where the speakers were, so I was able to get some good photos. We were also blessed to be seated with Randi Jones (the area rep for the Prince William area, which includes Culpeper), Larry Dix (an FCA Board member), and David Davies (VP of Stewardship and Gift Planning from the national FCA office).

One of the things that impressed me the most was what God is doing at Mountain View High School in Stafford County, VA. A group of 5 students from that school came on stage to play and sing an awesome worship song for the entire audience. That is something they do every Wednesday morning at school. Wow! Then two other students from Mountain View shared what the FCA has meant to them. One of the head football coaches shared his perspective.

But what struck me the most was the foundation for all the Kingdom successes at Mountain View, namely intercessory prayer. A mother of a Mountain View student shared her story of how God took a family disaster and turned it around for His glory. She told how her son was so rebellious and making horrible choices in 9th grade that were going to take him out.

That drove this lady to her knees. She had never understood the power of prayer before that. As a result of her prayers, God connected her to a lady who connected her to the head football coach at Mountain View. That coach ministered to her son on the football team. Eventually her son committed his life to Christ and now he’s serving the LORD.

One of the first things this lady did to break through was ask for the email addresses of all the parents of the football players. She then sent an email asking for volunteers to pray for the team. While she received several unfriendly replies, 4 other people stepped forward to pray. Now that intercessory team has grown to about 60 people.

Imagine what’s possible if a few parents in every school in America do something similar – form their own intercessory teams.

The keynote speaker for the evening was Bob Jones, a graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He played 4 years in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets and 8 years for the Philadelphia 76ers. He was named to the All-Defensive Team first team for 10 of his 12 season. He received the John Wooden Award in 2005, recognizing him for his character and contributions both on and off the court.

As I was soaking in the wonders of God during this FCA banquet, I was reminded that the FCA had a greater impact on me than any other ministry in my life. Being exposed to the FCA Bible in the Fall of 2001 led me to start the habit of daily journaling on January 1, 2002. Journaling eventually evolved to become the lead domino for my life. Several times I have had Jesus tell me, “Coaching people to journal to hear Me is your sweet spot.”

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, thank You for the FCA and the blessing that wonderful organization has been to me personally as well as to my family and our local community. Thank You for Kerry O’Neill and his godly leadership as the Director of the Fredericksburg Area FCA. Grant Kerry and the FCA UNCOMMON favor with You and man to soar to new heights for Jesus! Show them how to harness the power of the web to communicate their messages and allow students to share their God stories with the world. Thank You Jesus. Amen and hallelujah!

Today we continue with the 5th of 7 messages in the Chase the Lion series, namely “taking risks.” During this series, we’re exploring seven lion chasing skills: defying odds, facing fears, overcoming adversity, embracing uncertainty, taking risks, seizing opportunities, and looking foolish. The bulk of today’s messges comes from sermon notes by Mark Batterson, author of Chase the Lion.

The Domino Effect
On October 31st, 1517, a monk named Martin Luther walked up to the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany and posted a piece of paper on the church doors. His 95 theses attack the practice of indulgences–the selling of forgiveness by the church. Luther was put on trial. He was excommunicated from the church. But that one act of courage had a domino effect—it ignited the Protestant Reformation.

On April 18th, 1945, a factory owner named Oskar Schindler had a list of 1097 names manually typed—297 women and 800 men. He rescued them from Nazi Concentration Camps. Schindler lost everything. He died broke. But that one act of courage had a domino effect—a half-century later, there are more than 6,000 descendants of the Schindlerjuden.

On December 1st, 1951, a seamstress named Rosa Parks got on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Segregation laws required black passengers to give up their seat for white passengers. Rosa Parks refused to do it. She was arrested. She lost her job. But that one act of courage had a domino effect–it inspired a citywide boycott and a court battle. Within two years, bus segregation was ruled unconstitutional.

It is small acts of courage that change the course of history. Someone takes a risk and it has a domino effect. Now here’s the thing. We think about people like Martin Luther and Oscar Schindler and Rosa Parks in heroic terms. But they didn’t know they were making history when they were making history! They were just ordinary people taking risks! But when you take a risk you never know what kind of domino effect it is going to have.

During the Chase the Lion series we’re looking at one of the most courageous acts recorded in Scripture. An ancient warrior named Benaiah chased a lion into a pit on a snowy day and killed it.

Scripture goes on to list his military achievements and they are pretty impressive. He was one of the most decorated and celebrated warriors in Israel’s history. He was the captain of King David’s bodyguard. He was one of David’s thirty mighty men. In fact, Scripture says he was more honored than the other thirty. And Benaiah goes on to become Commander-in-Chief of Israel’s army.

But the genealogy of success can always be traced back to the risks we take. II Samuel 23 records three dominos. Benaiah took on two Moabites despite being outnumbered; he chased a lion despite snowy conditions; and he fought an Egyptian despite the fact that he was out armed. And those three risks had a domino effect.

As I reflect on my own life, I realize that most of the good things that have happened are the byproduct of a few risks. And the bigger the risks the bigger the rewards!

Buried Talent
Let me try to put risk in biblical context. We don’t tend to think of risk in spiritual terms, but risk is one dimension of righteousness.

In Matthew 25, Jesus describes the Kingdom of Heaven in terms of risk.

Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

If you really want to appreciate this parable you’ve got to realize that one talent was the ancient equivalent of twenty years of a day laborer’s salary. I don’t know about you, but if someone gives me a hundred years wages I don’t know if I ever take another risk. I’ve got enough money to last the rest of my life. You know what I’m saying? It had to tempting to play it safe. He had more to lose! But he also had more to gain!

Prayer Power
Loving Father, thank You for the measure of faith You have given to each of us. Guide each of us into a closer relationship with You so that our challenges will pale in comparison to how big our God is. Bless each of us with courage to take risks when Your Holy Spirit prompts us to action. Thank You Jesus. Amen and hallelujah!

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your enjoyment level of everyday life?
How do you keep track of what God is doing and has done?

The theme for last week’s devotionals was “Story.” Every day, God is writing a new page in the story of your life and the story of my life. After all, He is the God of HIStory. Journaling is a great way to record God’s story as it unfolds and to remember it later.

This past weekend, my wife and I went to Rocky Gap, Maryland for her to compete in an Xterra triathlon there on Sunday July 13. While sports have become a “god” for many Americans and sporting events often displace Sunday church activities, they also offer an opportunity to be a witness for Jesus in the marketplace – to go where the fish are instead of expecting the fish to come to us.

God has wired Julia (my wife) in such a way that she loves triathlons and does very well in them. Typically they take place on Sunday mornings so athletes can check-in the day before. I feel it’s important for me to support Julia in her endeavors just as I appreciate it when she supports me in mine.

These weekends getaways serve as mini-vacations for Julia and me. They allow us to rest, relax, and reflection and bring UNITY to our marriage. We get exposed to beautiful new places and many new people, which in turn helps birth new ideas. We appreciate the opportunity to be a light for Jesus for people who never go to church.

While I was walking from the Rocky Gap Resort hotel to the beach where the race was starting, I ran into Mike Sevier, who won the Culpeper Triathlon on May 18. When he called me by name that really surprised me until I remembered he now receives my daily devotional. Mike has a very mature Christian perspective and lots of neat stories to share. He reads a lot and has a hunger to grow and be all he can be.

While Julia was racing for 3 hours and 12 minutes, I had the chance to talk to lots of people and take lots of photos. I was blessed to have a 30 minute conversation with Ann Mickey. As director of Athlete Communications, she handles all the email and telephone correspondence for Xterra and knows many of the triathletes well. Ann shared lots of stories about them.

For example, one of the triathletes was a former champion strongman of the world. He intentionally lost 170# to be able to compete in triathlons. Another triathlete had a major injury to his left leg during the war in Iraq and lost his calf muscle. A spectator I met had traveled much of the world and speaks English, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, and a few other languages.

After meeting so many neat people and hearing their stories, I decided to bring my video camera to future triathlons to share the stories of athletes with you in short videos. Enjoy my photos from yesterday Xterra triathlon at today’s Link of the Day.

Last night before dinner, I decided to watch TBN for a short while. Joyce Meyers preached a great message titled “Enjoying Everyday Life.” That’s my philosophy – to enjoy God each and every day, regardless of the cards I am dealt. That is the “The Secret of Happiness” which is teaching series by Joyce.

As I share my life story with you as it unfolds, I hope and pray you are inspired to share your God story with other. Doing so is very powerful and will allow fresh streams of God’s living waters to flow through you.

Heavenly Father, every day of life on this earth you give to us is a blessing. May we cherish each one and be a good steward of the short time allotted to us. Help each of us to see the beauty of You in the beauty of the world around us and then share that joy with others. Thank You Jesus. Amen and hallelujah!

What are your expectations as a child of God?

When I go places, I expect the favor of God. I expect uncommon ideas, uncommon connections, and miracles. Why? Because I’m a child of God, the LORD of lords and the King of kings, the God of the universe. I do my best to honor God and He promises to honor those who honor Him. As a born-again believer, I have the Holy Spirit within me. That means that where I go, so does the Holy Spirit. In God’s presence, extraordinary miracles are ordinary. The supernatural always trumps the natural.

Last weekend Coffee Fest held its large annual Washington DC convention. This event was not open to the public, but rather just to people involved in the coffee industry. Coffee is the #2 traded commodity in the world, next to oil. Julia (my wife) started her coffee roasting business to be able to bless poor coffee farmers around the world.

Julia attended all 3 days of Coffee Fest on Feb 15-17. I was blessed to be able to join her all day on Sunday Feb 17. I met so many neat people and saw so many new things. People in the coffee industry tend to be quite friendly because that’s the nature of the business.

I left Culpeper at 5:50 AM on Feb 17 and arrived at my mother-in-law’s condo in Falls Church at 7:10 AM to pick up Julia. Then we caught the Metro from Falls Church into DC. The Metro station was nearly deserted at this time of the morning on a Sunday. While waiting for the Metro to come, I went to look for a bathroom (by the way, there was none). When I saw a man come into the Metro station, I asked him if he knew where the bathroom was. It turned out this man (Rushan Sadekov) was Russian. Rushan openly shared the importance of his faith in God in his life.

God blessed me with the opportunity to spend 30-40 minutes with Rushan while waiting for the Metro and on the Metro itself. I learned more of the real scoop about Russia from this highly educated native than I had in my entire life. It turned out Rushan works for Voice for America (VOA). He does a live interactive radio broadcast in Russian twice a week, connecting with Russian people around the world. I learned that VOA does live radio broadcasts in 48 different languages to more than 100 million people outside the U.S. When I asked Rushan if I could visit the VOA headquarters in DC in the near future, he gladly agreed.

Coffee Fest took place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, named after the first-ever elected mayor of Washington DC and the first Black mayor of any major city. While waiting for my first class to start, I walked around this 3+ million square foot facility. In addition to Coffee Fest, there was a huge boat show taking place and a large high school girl’s volleyball tournament with 37 volleyball courts.

At Coffee Fest, I sat in on one class while Julia sat in another. After that, I watched part of the finals of the East Coast Barista. I mingled with some of the 200+ exhibitors. One coffee business owner who looked about 30 years old, had 150 employees and supplies the coffee to the Costco’s on the whole East Coast as well as most of the regional airports.

Heavenly Father, I praise You as the ultimate POWER networker, the One who owns everything and already has Your network built. Thank you for the uncommon connections and opportunities birthed this past weekend by honoring my wife and attending Coffee Fest. I pray that through Rushan and Voice of America you will open the door for Your Daily Blessing to be broadcast around the world in many different languages. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

What wonders of life are you noticing around you each day?

Late yesterday afternoon, I discovered a voice message from Peggy Walker, one of my neighbors, inviting me to go to My Fair Lady at Woodberry Forest School. Peggy told me that she and Tom Earles had gone to that musical the night before and it was outstanding. On top of that admission is free. Tonight (Feb 16) at 8 PM is the last showing for this wonderful musical. If you live nearby and are available, I highly recommend going. You can see photos from last night’s performance at today’s Link of the Day.

While I had heard of My Fair Lady, I wasn’t familiar with the plot, nor many of the songs. The story reminded me of how God is at work in each person’s life inviting them to a transformed life through Jesus Christ. By simply and sincerely inviting Jesus into your heart, the Holy Spirit takes up permanent residence within you to transforms you from the inside out. Essentially, He leads you on a journey to take you from rags to riches in a miraculous way.

Woodberry Forest School is located on historic Route 15 on the way from Culpeper to Orange Virginia, part of the “Journey Through Hallowed Ground.”  This scenic and historically rich landscape is recognized as the region which holds more American history than any other swath of land in the country. It is home to significant and unique historical, cultural, scenic and natural legacies. The Journey’s corridor follows US Route 15 and Route 20 on a 175-mile meandering course from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, through Maryland, and ending in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Woodberry Forest School is one of the premier private high schools in the nation and it’s located less than 20 minutes from where I live. The school is renown for reverence of sacred things, intellectual thoroughness, good sportsmanship, and its honor system. You’ll learn about Woodberry in my devotional on Feb 18. Stay tuned.

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing me with the opportunity to attend this wonderful musical at Woodberry Forest School. Thank You for all the performers and cast. Bless and protect each of them and their families. Bless every person who comes to Woodberry tonight for the closing performance of My Fair Lady with a new understanding of Your goodness and greatness. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

Where can you find a 10,000% return on investment?

On Wednesday January 30, David Bean and I drove with Rev. Sam Reeves to meet with Rev. Ron Davidson at the Gleaning for the World (GFTW) headquarters in Concord Virginia (near Lynchburg). During our drive to Concord, the logo for Rim of Grace Ministries was birthed. That included the 3 flags from America, Virginia, and Liberia because all 3 histories are closely tied together.

What a treat to have Ron spend 2 hours with us and give us a tour of his facility. I learned that GFTW currently caries out its mission with 11 staff members, 300+ volunteers each month, and about 7-8 community service workers each month.

Ron humbly described his ministry as a “steel warehouse in a cow pasture.” But you may recall that Ron founded GFTW in 1998 and since then his ministry has given away more than $300 million of supplies to people in desperate need in third nations around the world. That’s incredible stewardship.

GFTW’s slogan (assignment) is “Partnering with you to help people in need around the globe.” For every dollar you donate to GFTW, $100 of supplies will be delivered to people in desperate need. That’s a 10,000% return on investment (ROI).

Heavenly Father, thank You for the awesome privilege to visit the headquarters for Gleaning for the World and to meet with Rev. Ron Davidson. That You for Ron’s willingness to help Sam Reeves and Rim of Grace Ministries. Use this partnership to bless and unite America, Virginia, and Liberia. Thank You Jesus. Amen and hallelujah!

My past 5 days have been packed with God’s blessings and favor. I’m sharing these experiences to encourage you that a close walk with Jesus makes for a life full of adventure and passion. My rock is Jesus – not anything or anyone else.

On Friday Jan 25, I hired my first graphics artist and had my first formal nutritional coaching session by Sharon Graham. In the evening, my wife and I hosted our weekly marriage LIFE group at our home. We are going through the outstanding “Love and Respect” DVD series.

On Saturday, my wife and I went with 3 friends and Julia’s twin sister to the annual Richmond Triathlon Club banquet in Richmond. The keynote speaker was Julie Moss, who put triathlons on the world map in 1982 when she lost a several minute lead in the last 200 yards of an 11 hour race. She shared a short video and her incredible story of collapsing several times and finally crawling to the finish line.

On Sunday Jan 27, my wife and I were blessed by a great morning worship service at Soul Purpose Church, followed immediately afterwards by 3 baptisms and a pastor appreciation lunch. Attendance was high. The love and fellowship were wonderful. The baptisms reminded me of why I’m so proud to be an active member of such a vibrant church.

When I awoke on Monday morning, I lay in bed resting and reflecting while receiving new revelations. During this time, the Holy Spirit revealed key elements for a logo for Your Daily Blessing. This included 3 circles, each with the number 5, surrounded by a triangle with a cross at the top. In Biblical numerology, the number 5 represents grace. The number 555 represents amazing grace. There is only one place in the Bible that talks about “great grace” and that’s Acts 4:31-35 when God’s people were in one accord – one in spirit and purpose. This was a tremendous convergence experience.

After getting up and praying on my knees, I went to my desk and immediately designed and published the new logo. Later that day, Jon Monroe helped me complete and make live the new website at www.yourdailyblessing.com. You can see that at today’s Link of the Day.

Yesterday morning, by God’s grace, I got a new blog and photo gallery going for Soul Purpose Church. I took the afternoon off to go with my wife to Massanutten to celebrate my father’s birthday. For me, having opportunities to honor my father and mother brings great joy. Unlike many other people, my parents have been wonderful to me my entire life.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your amazing grace. Thank You for an incredible past 5 days. Thank You for all the quality time I had with my wife. Thank You for my family and friends. Thank You for Your revelation and inspiration to create Your logo for Your Daily Blessing. Jesus, You are my Rock – not anything or anyone else. To You be all glory, honor, and praise, now and forever. Amen and hallelujah.

How can you multiply this Battle Cry miracle through the web?

Battle Cry 2007 takes place this weekend at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Virginia. This huge Christian youth rally was originally scheduled to take place at the Baltimore Ravens football stadium, but God miraculously moved it to Virginia. God’s timing is perfect. He is changing the spiritual climate of Virginia on the same weekend Jamestown is hosting huge celebrations to commemorate America’s 400th Anniversary. It’s also Mother’s Day weekend. Dewey McDonnell is one of my dearest friends. He has been sold out for Jesus for about ten years and he’s been one of the most loyal participants with our Pray Culpeper team. Thanks to his faithfulness, about 800 people from Culpeper and surrounding counties are going to Battle Cry this weekend. Dewey has a call on his life to unite the youth and youth leaders, not only for Culpeper, but for all of Virginia.

In the Spring of 2006, Dewey invested $2,000 into God’s Kingdom by buying 40 tickets to the Battle Cry event that took place in Philadelphia. He then rounded up more than 30 youth and youth leaders from Culpeper to go with him, including one of his daughters.

Two days after Battle Cry was over, Dewey shared his wonderful testimony about the event and its impact with our Pray Culpeper team in the Culpeper Library. We had about 18 people there, including at least 3 pastors. Dewey told us he felt led to buy significantly more tickets for the Battle Cry 2007 event – perhaps 200. Dewey told us that Battle Cry was offering a 50% sale for those who bought their tickets within the next week or so – $25/ticket instead of the usual $50/ticket.

Pastor Randy Orndorff then suggested that we buy 400 tickets for Battle Cry 2007 because 2007 was the 400th anniversary of Jamestown. Our Pray Culpeper team went back and forth about the optimal number of tickets to buy. Then Pastor Paula spoke up stressing the importance of coming into agreement before we prayed about this incredible opportunity. She brought our entire group into unity before leading us is a powerful prayer asking God to use this opportunity to bless our community, state, and nation through these 400 tickets. Then Dewey stepped out in faith to put up $10,000 to buy 400 tickets. Over the next month or so, about $7,000 came in from various people and churches.

In the Fall of 2006, Dewey went to Mclean Bible Church for a huge Teenmania event. Ron Luce, the Founder of Teenmania and Battle Cry was there. Unexpectedly, God opened a huge door. People who attended this and already had tickets for Battle Cry 2007 were told the number of tickets they had would be doubled for free. God miraculously doubled Dewey’s tickets from 400 to 800. Dewey’s $10,000 investment now had a value of $40,000 = $50/ticket x 800 tickets.

Next came the problem of finding enough people from Culpeper and surrounding communities to go to Battle Cry in May 2007. The LORD, a God of action, went to work by uniting the hearts of youth leaders. Typically, about 3-4 youth leaders were coming to the monthly youth leaders meeting in Culpeper. But on December 1, 2006, nine youth leaders from different church and ministries met to discuss working together to pastor our city. Now most of the 800 Battle tickets are spoken for.

On Sunday April 15, the day before the Virginia Tech shooting tragedy, the Culpeper News had a full page article on the front page of the newspaper titled “The Miracle of the Battle Cry Tickets”. See full article below.

Dewey forwarded a link to that article to Teenmania, which led to him being asked to share this miracle on May 12 at Battle Cry in front of 15,000-25,000 people. Then God opened the door for me to join him to share how prayer evangelism and our Pray Culpeper team played a key role in this miracle.

Heavenly Father, You are so good and so amazing. Thank You for Dewey McDonnell’s humility, diligence, and faithfulness to You. Thank You for his friendship. Thank You for his active participation with our Pray Culpeper team. Thank You for the many ways you have been blessing his family. We ask You LORD to do something extraordinary this weekend at Battle Cry. Rend the heavens. Rain down Your Holy Spirit to make this a Pentecost weekend where thousands of lives are changed forever to impact the world for Jesus. Praise be to the LORD God Almighty! Amen and Hallelujah!

The Miracle of the BattleCry Tickets

Ask Dewey McDonnell or anybody in the weekly Pray Culpeper group about “The Miracle of the BattleCry Tickets” and they’ll be happy to share the story.When McDonnell took a youth group of 40 to a national, two-day Christian youth movement in Philadelphia last year, he had tickets to spare. He had so many leftover tickets that he walked around Philadelphia handing them out to strangers.McDonnell returned to Pray Culpeper with stories and a business proposition.

If they acted immediately, they could pre-order tickets for next year’s BattleCry at half-price – a full year before the May 11 and 12 youth rally at Nissan Pavilion.

McDonnell mulled over the idea of purchasing 200 tickets for $25 each, a savings of $5,000. The group embraced the idea, and prayed intently over the decision at the next Pray Culpeper meeting.

In the midst of prayer, God seemed to be leading them to a much different number.

“We all took a big ‘gulp’ when that ‘400’ came up,” said Pray Culpeper member Virginia Morton.

Without so much as a second thought, McDonnell charged $10,000 to his personal credit card – enough to cover 400 tickets.

“How could I say ‘no’ to something like that,” McDonnell said.
“Talk about an act of faith,” said Randy Peck, a Pray Culpeper regular.

Within weeks churches and individuals chipped in, compensating for about $7,000 of his expense.

Then something incredible happened.
When Dewey went to BattleCry youth leader training he learned promoters rewarded those who pre-ordered tickets in faith with double their original order. This meant McDonnell’s original order for 400 tickets doubled to 800 for free – $40,000-worth of tickets, for only $10,000.

“God’s blessed Dewey for being faithful with this,” Peck said.
McDonnell says about 600 of the 800 are already spoken for, and there is still nearly a month before the BattleCry rally, which serves to inspire teens nationwide to embrace Christian values and denounce pop culture messages that advocate sex and drug use.

Up to 25,000 teens could turn out to watch a two-day festival of rock ‘n’ roll – sans sex and drugs – at Nissan in May.

“It’s not to introduce people to Christ,” McDonnell said. “It’s to take where they are in Christ and move them up.”

Pray Culpeper is sponsoring a Christian youth unity rally to promote BattleCry 2007 at Culpeper Middle School Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Comedian and evangelist Billy Dougoud will host the event with special guests Cody Merrill of Stafford, Mike Guzzardo of Teen Mania and Culpeper’s Rize Up praise band.

“God not only answers prayers, he multiplies them,” Morton said.
