Have you ever been fired before by any of your clients? I have. And it’s not fun. As I reflect back on previous business failures, I recognize a common thread – I failed to BE Outstanding!

What are you doing to prepare for the famine that is coming?

About a year ago, I listened to a BlogTalkRadio show with Erik Olson. I don’t remember what his primary topic was supposed to be that day, but Erik ended up talking about something much different for the first half hour or so of his show.

Erik said that over the next ten years there will be a huge transition in power and wealth from the corporate arena to the entrepreneurs.

Shortly after hearing Erik’s message, the United States experienced the major economic downturn in September 2008. I realized then that what Erik was talking about also applied to lare non-profit organizations and even mega-churches.

As I was watching TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network) early this morning, I saw they were doing a praise-athon raising money to support their world-wide ministry. While TBN has had a profound and positive impact for Jesus around the world over the past 30 years or so, the paradigm for affordable communication has changed to social media (Web 2.0).

During a conversation with Bob Sims earlier this year, he told me he saw a vision of large boat (e.g. aircraft carrier) out in the ocean being shot at. It couldn’t change direction fast enough to avoid the attack. However, there were many small boats nearby that could easily change direction and flee from harm. Also, they were so small they were not detected by the enemy.

Bob says that bloggers are going to change the world, most of which are nameless and faceless as far as big media is concerned.

God is rapidly transitioning us to a church model similar to the book of Acts. Home churches (LIFE groups) are becoming much more influential.

Tomorrow I will share about TRIBES and tribe leaders. It’s tribes that matter now.

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, we praise You as the God who calms the seas in the midst of the storms to save our boats. We know we are living in very turbulent times. May we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus to stay afloat. Help us, guide us to prepare for the great famine that is coming. I cry out, “Lord, have mercy.” In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

Those are the lyrics to a poem written by Hugh Traulsen in the 1980′s titled “Caring / Sharing.” He dedicated that poem to his wife Ann after she died from a rare form of lung cancer in 2007.

I first got connected to Hugh on July 4, 2009, FREEDOM day in America when we celebrate the birth of our nation. On that historic morning, I discovered the most profound voice message of my life from Hugh. Hugh’s message led me to promptly call him and God immediately connected our hearts.

Even though Hugh has very little money and is disabled, he has turned out to be one of my greatest blessings of 2009. Through Hugh, I got connected to Karen Hannon.

My friend Jeff Bernstein, founder of Gates of Zion, taught me that the word “Shalom” means much more than peace. It means complete peace and wellness — body, mind, soul, and spirit. According to Wikipedia, “Shalom is a Hebrew word meaning peace, completeness, and welfare [i.e. complete peace and wholeness] and can be used idiomatically to mean both hello and goodbye.”

Today you have a choice, a very important one. This message could just be another one that wastes 5 minutes of your time or it could profoundly alter the rest of your life and the lives of those closest to you.

According to Jim Cornish of Canada, “It is estimated that the average human adult body contains about 10 trillion cells. Placed end to end, they would stretch around the earth 47 times… Cells work to keep us healthy and alive.” Each cell can be compared to a home and family with its own set of roles and responsibilities.

“So what? Now what?” you may ask. When it comes to your health, an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure. How are you shaping culture in your sphere of influence?

About two weeks ago I listened to a BlogTalkRadio show hosted by Erik Olson. During that Erik talked about the huge transfer in power and wealth that is taking place from the corporate world to entrepreneurs. When I shared that with Jerry Graham, he told me there is a simultaneous transfer of power and wealth to God’s Kingdom builders, fervent disciples of Jesus who are advancing the Kingdom of God on this earth. I agree.

But there is another major trend taking place – the transfer of power and wealth from men to women. That’s apparent in many arenas of the marketplace, including the political one. During recent correspondence with Jack Serra, he told me that 80% of the people who buy and read his book “Marketplace, Marriage, and Revival” are women. I see something similar in Relationship Marketing (Web 2.0).

It’s no wonder that many women are thriving with Relationship Marketing. In general, they tend to be much more relational than men. The mantra for Relationship Marketing is “Relationships first. Business second.” For women this is usually natural. While many men are clinging to the “security” (and power) of the corporate world, women are getting a jump start establishing their own businesses on the web. It’s neat to watch.

Recently I got connected with Cheryl Smith, founder of CultureSmith Consulting, through Twitter (there’s that word again). I plan to interview Cheryl on BlogTalkRadio in the next few weeks. Here is what Cheryl says in her online bio:

“As a young girl, I often sat on my back porch steps waiting on the garbage truck to come so I would have someone to talk to. I’m pretty sure it’s because I’ve always loved meeting new people. “Never met a stranger,” some say. I have this uncanny ability to get to know others quickly and easily.

I grew up in Georgia in the late ’60’s and early ’70’s. My parents taught us (I’m the youngest of five) to treat others with respect. I spent a lot of time with the Etheridges, an African American family who lived across the street. Jeanine Etheridge was my best friend and her family’s influence helped shape me into the woman I am today. Before I ever heard the term “core value”, respect was already one of mine.

My faith is also very important to me. I find it both challenging and rewarding to consistently follow Christ in all aspects of life. I’m forever on this journey and am thankful for an intimate relationship with a loving God.

I wrote my first diary entry on January 1, 1976 as an 11 year-old girl. During those days and since, I’ve written about the things that are important to me – faith, family and relationships.

Today I’m living my dream and I want the same for others! That’s the message I convey to corporate and non-profit audiences alike. When individuals recognize their God-given uniquenesses and live accordingly, life takes on new purpose and meaning. Personal satisfaction abounds. Teams function more effectively. Customers are more engaged. Organizations grow and prosper.”

I’m impressed with how transparent Cheryl is, how she is living her life on purpose with passion, and how she openly shares her faith. On the home page of her business blog, Cheryl says,

Who do you know who is looking for great resources to be empowered?

Yesterday afternoon I had the privilege to speak for the first time to Karla Meachem, founder of “Empowering Christian Women.” In less than two months, Karla has had a major impact on my life and ministry. Because of Karla’s obvious love for Jesus, the Holy Spirit prompted me on several occasions recently to contact her to learn more about her dreams and goals and discover how I might be able to help her fulfill those.

Karla lives in small town (300 people) in Saskatchewan Canada (north of North Dakota). She was one of the first 30-50 people I connected to on Twitter. Her Twitter background (“Focus on Christ”) and tweets prompted me to check out the people she was following. That in turn led me to follow many of her contacts which led to lots of great connections. Of my 468 followers on Twitter, Karla is one of my favorite ones. Karla’s bold stand for Jesus encouraged me to be more bold in the Relationship Marketing (Web 2.0) arena.

After Karla and I got connected on Twitter, she began subscribing to Your Daily Blessing and inviting others to do so. I noticed she often clicked through hyperlinks I shared. As I saw her name pop up in my various reports, I prayed for her often. Clearly she has passion for others to come to know the love of Jesus.

Without me ever asking her to do so, Karla signed up for the JIREH Marketing Bronze Membership. She chose to sow a financial seed into God’s billion soul vision and become part of God’s Team Destiny. Since favor is proportional to God’s assignment, I believe Karla has stepped into a new place of great favor.

For several weeks (or perhaps longer), the Holy Spirit has been telling me over and over to start my own BlogTalkRadio show. While I wrote down to do that several times in my journal, somehow I kept allowing other things to distract me. While talking to Karla, the Holy Spirit told me to ask Karla for permission to interview her next week (Dec 2-4) on internet radio. She agreed. Thank You Jesus!

This morning I strongly sensed God wants Karla to be the very first person I interview on BlogTalkRadio. God is not only going to use Karla as a catalyst to help me launch a world-wide radio ministry, but for many others in my network and hers as well. Wow! It’s amazing what God can do through one person who is faithful to him.

Incidentally, Karla has plans to soon launch two new blogs, one to empower Christian men and another to empower Christian kids. If you want to connect to the shakers and movers on the web, Karla is definitely one of them. For my followers who are looking for resources to be empowered, I encourage you to subscribe to Karla’s awesome blog. For those who want to follow Karla on Twitter, her user name is karlameachem.

By the way, in tomorrow’s message for Thanksgiving Day, I’ll be sharing photos and highlights from yesterday’s Culpeper Community Thanksgiving Service. That was awesome. On Friday, November 28, the message will be “Where Are They?” – referring to the lack of authentic Christian blogs. That title comes from the latest blog post by Heather, one of Karla’s friends who is honoring Jesus in her struggle with brain cancer.

What one idea do you have that could change the world?

For the past few days, we have been taking a look at ideas. On July 1, I came across a brand new blog post by Mac Anderson, founder of Simple Truths, titled “Reward the Gift of Imagination.” Here is what Mac shared:

One of the most amazing things about business (and life) is the power of one idea. And one of your greatest challenges as a leader is to understand how to find and nurture them.

One of the great myths in life is that most breakthrough ideas come from scientists with advanced degrees. While that is true for some industries, most new ideas come from ordinary people with what I’ll call “fertile minds” – minds that are always curious and looking for better innovations. “Fertile minds” are not plentiful in most organizations, but they do exist and it is up to the leaders to identify, reward, and cultivate the gift of imagination. For most leaders, however, imagination goes against the grain, because new ideas can rock the boat and cost money. I’d like to share with you some of my favorite examples of the power of one idea.

Howard Schultz was inspired by a trip to Italy and came back inspired to be the first coffee shop in the United States to focus on, of all things…coffee.

For years, Dunkin Donuts’ sales would slow in the summer, until someone thought…let’s add ice cream. A simple idea that increased sales dramatically.

For most leaders, however, imagination goes against the grain, because new ideas can rock the boat and cost money. I’d like to share with you some of my favorite examples of the power of one idea.

• McDonald’s only served lunch and dinner in all their stores until some maverick franchisee had the courage to ask customers if they’d like to have breakfast at his store. Their answer was yes, and you know the rest of the story.
• Fred Smith, the founder of Federal Express, did a research paper in a business class on the feasibility of starting a “next day delivery business.” His professor acknowledged his “off the wall notion” with great skepticism, but with Fred the creative juices had begun to flow.
• In 1951, Kemmons Wilson took his wife and five kids on a vacation. He was so frustrated by the second-rate accommodations available for families that he decided to open his own hotel that was clean and never charged extra for children. Plenty of doubters predicted failure because there was nothing like it at the time. He decided to call it “Holiday Inn,” and by 1979 he had the largest hotel chain in the world with 1,759 hotels in more than fifty countries, and sales of over $1 billion.
• I remember it like it was yesterday. In 1985, we had a small publishing company selling quotation gift books. I had always liked quotes and the books were selling well. However, one night after work, I was talking with friends, and out of the blue the thought occurred to me: “people really like quotes, wonder if they’d want to put them on their walls?” From that Successories was born.

This simple concept not only applies to business leaders, it applies to leaders in all areas. For example, Notre Dame’s legendary football coach Knute Rockne took his team to a New York stage production for relaxation prior to a big game. While watching the chorus line, Rockne conceived the idea of a new offensive formation that gave him a great advantage over his opponents, and eventually revolutionized the game of football.

I could cite hundreds of other examples where one simple idea made a powerful, positive impact. Remember, keep your mind open and reward the gift of imagination in your organization.
