Most agree that 1 Timothy 5:8 refers to financial provision. God is not in the business of asking us to consistently neglect our families in order to further His kingdom. In fact, Scripture teaches that a man is only to be given a public ministry after he has proven his leadership abilities with his own family. The qualification for a public ministry is proven character, not giftedness.

Like many other things, money in and of itself is neutral. It can be used for good or bad. What you do with your money makes all the difference. In contrast, the “love” of money is always bad. Like most other sins, greed usually starts small and over time escalates into a major problem. America is being overwhelmed by greed and covetousness.

In his book Finishing Strong, Steve Farrar describes 3 different types of ambushes men can expect to encounter as they attempt to finish strong: 1) the ambush of another woman (female), 2) the ambush of money (finances), 3) the ambush of a neglected family (family). Today, we’ll take a look at the ambush of another woman.

Finishing strong means walking with God personally at the end of our lives – being strong in our faith and close to the Lord. To finish strong, you must survive the ambushes in your life. And the guys who get through the ambushes are generally those who anticipate them. Men can expect to encounter at least 3 different types of ambushes as they attempt to finish strong.

One of my favorite books I have ever read is “Finishing Strong” by Steve Farrrar. This book talks about going the distance with your family. Dr. John Beck once told his future son-in-law “Stay true to Jesus! Make sure that you keep your heart close to Jesus every day. It’s a long way from here to where you’re going to go, and Satan’s in no hurry to get you. It’s been my observation that just one out of ten who start out in full-time ministry for the Lord at 21 are still on track by age 65. They’re shot down morally, they’re shot down with discouragement, they’re shot down with liberal theology, they get obsessed with making money.”

Abiding is all about the most important friendship in your life! Yet not even one grape is a result of working harder.”
